Does the drivers electric window have to work for the MOT?

Wouldn't have thought so, I'm sure there's some specialist models out there that don't have opening windows.

I've had a quick look through here and can't find anything, although I'm not sure if it's up to date: www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm

edit. I see me and Brompt have given you some light reading for a wet afternoon. ;>)

My Astra passed in May with the drivers window (wind up) jammed shut. It's since freed itself, or at least it goes down most of the way.

That great thanks, I am saving up for the next motor and anything I spend on this one comes off the next one.

Do you know why the window wont work, is it definitely something expensive ?

I dont know, but it is labour intensive just getting the door apart. The motor is fine, it is the mechanism and if something is broken I doubt it is an off the shelf item.

I sprayed silcone down the rubbers and it works better but the back end of the glass doesnt drop at the same rate as the front so as it goes down it tilts forward and out of the guides at the back - go right down and it pops out altogether.

Never crossed my mind about the MoT. The driver's window on the MX5 doesn't work but it's passed twice so far. It is quite a sensible place though, so they might be ignoring it.

Looks like there are a couple of used regulators c/w motor for sale on ebay for between £17.99 & £30.00. Would have to get it sorted if it was mine, can't stand things not working.

Window operation electric or manual is not part of the mot.The only aspect of the doors that is part of the test,is that they must be able to be opened from both inside and outside of the car.hth

Only so the tester can shout instructions to his mate who is checking for leaks while he presses the brake pedal etc!! My old testing station used to control the brake rollers with a hard wired controller passed through the window but even that is controlled from a remote now.

Why do you need another new car? I've had my Panda for 3.5 years now and I am not even slightly tempted or even thinking about changing it! Your wife must be very very understanding!.
