Vauxhall - 12 1.7d Yellow check engine light Mokka - zippy
The yellow engine light came on yesterday on the M40 and power to the engine was reduced.

AA man said something about an ERG valve but wasn't clear and couldn't understand him and said I am safe to travel home.

Car performed ok and the yellow light has extinguished.

Do I still need to take it to a the crooks at the local Vauxhall garage or now that the light has gone, is it ok?

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve.Part of the emission system .Common failure on any modern diesel engine as the valve gets clogged with combustion soot and fails to close off completely. The fault may return, but more frequently.Keep an eye on it.

There may well be a stored fault code for a while, but after a number of clean starts (by that I mean no further faults occur) the code will automatically be deleted.

If the light has gone out, and stays out, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It might benefit from an Italian tune occasionally (i.e. give it a good ragging)

Thanks for all of your replies!

I used to be ok with playing around with cars, changing small parts like locks and alternators, cleaning carburettors etc.

Too complicated now and too many years in a company car and being constantly exhausted (pun not intended) has put an end to tinkering!
