It could be for adjustment to the Adaptive cruise control, it's not allowing them to get close enough to the car in front.

Apparently the AGC is failing and causing crashes.

Automatic Gap Creator is a device where a BMW driver does not need to check if a gap exists in the outside lane, merely move out without looking or indicating, into the gap automatically created by the device, which is activated by the steering wheel.
