My guess as to why would be `revenge` for inconsiderate parking, the worst parking is mostly small cars, I think a large proportion of people who buy really small cars choose them because they are not very good at driving, although old shape Ka's seem to be the worst for this.

Twenty-odd years ago I had a then new Golf GTi. It was broken into 6 times and stolen twice in less than 18 months. Never had a car before or since which has attracted so much unwanted attention.

Mate of mine had an XR2i, also around 20 years ago. It had the paintwork scratched, stereo stolen, wheels nicked. It was stolen and recovered twice, once without wheels and interior and bent suspension. The third time it vanished it never came back.

Due to massive insurance premiums on hot hatches at the time it was basically unsaleable, so he was actually glad to see the back of it.

Probably around that time i looked at an untampered mint one owner Sierra Sapphire Cosworth in that lovely pale blue/grey for the princely sum of £5k.

My quote for insurance, £5k.

I didn't buy it, but wish i'd had the money and dry strorage to have bought it and kept it properly stored.

Ouch. Went through a similar decision making process (also a blue/ grey Cossie) and ended up buying a Mk2 Golf GTi 16V. The insurance was expensive but (just about) affordable. After 3 years I sold it. The buyer told me it was the only GTi he'd encountered that had never been stolen and not had paintwork due to vandalism. And yes, I still regret selling it.

>Sierra Sapphire Cosworth in that lovely pale blue/grey..

Moonstone Blue.

Around the same time I was looking for something turbocharged and narrowed it down to either Sapphire Cosworth 4x4, Supra or 944.

Insurance quotes for the Sapphire were ridiculous so that was out.

A newspaper article mentioned that Tony Blackburn owned a Supra Turbo so that was out too.

I ended up with the Porsche in Diamond Blue Metallic which was a slightly darker version of the Moonstone Blue. Lovely colours that never showed the dirt.

I ended up with a Camaro in silver.

Right about those paler blue metallics, i had a big bumper Volvvo 144GLE many years ago in an ice blue metalllic, one of the nicest colours i've ever owned and a very good car to boot, manual with overdrive.

Whats happened to paint, even when you see a nice blue it looks wishy washy now, not deep like the paints were then, or is it me.

BMW still does some nice blues; some big Citroens still look terrific in metallic red. The rest of the world is depressing grey orthodoxy or nonconformist-just-like-everyone-else black.

My first Escort was a brilliant azure called Matisse Blue. There are still a few around and seeing one always raises a smile.

I see that Porsche is top of the list for vandalised makes. If my recent experience is anything to go by, it isn't envy, but shear arrogance and stupidity of a Porche driver.

I recently took the last parking space at the end of a dedicated parking area, with my back end just at the start of the double yellow lines. On returning to my car I found a Porsche Cayenne parked on the double yellow lines, with his car only 12 inches from mine.

I did finally manage to get out, but I've never been so close to vandalising a car myself!

Just noticed the Number 3 model in the list of car models most likely to be targeted by vandals is the Peugeot 207. This is presumably the owners themselves who, after driving away from the showroom, realise they've been sold a piece of poo with no redeeming features whatsoever, and do a "Basil Fawlty" on the car.

A Porsche owning friend came out of his hotel in Brighton to find that his car had aquired a two word slogan referring to sex and travel inscribed in huge letters along the driver's side. Good, solid scratches into the steel to boot.

While driving home, sat at a set of lights, a group of lads in a hot hatch next to him came over a shade abusive when he refused to rise to the engine revving bait. He looked at them, wound down his window, looked down and gestured with a sweeping motion along the length of his car.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

My very first car was a Volvo 144 DL in red.My parents bought it in 1972 brand new for £2000.I was given it when it was 14 years old and i ran it for 2 more years before selling it for £800.Hows that for lack of deprecation!

It was a fantastic car and utterly reliable in all the time we had it.

I still have my Z28 that I shipped over when we came back to UK.

I don't know how much thought (and money) GM Marketing spent on finding a catchy name for the paint colour but they eventually decided on "Bright Red" :-)

When I worked in a car bodyshop in 94-95, their any-vehicle insurance policy specifically excluded all Sierra Cosworth models.

I remember a colleague telling me about someone he knew who was a successful businessman with waaaay more money than sense.
For his son's 21st birthday he bought him a new Escort Cosworth. That'll be 22 grand's worth of motor car at the time and the insurance quote for a 21 year old lad came to, erm, 22 grand.

Oops.

Icing on the cake. While it was sat in the drive, uninsured, while he decided what to do about this conundrum, it was stolen......

I'm pleased that my 9 years old Focus is low down on the list.
