Audi to buy Ducati - rtj70
Does anyone on here care or have an opinion?

I've been to Bologna on one holiday (when BA had direct flights from Manchester) and saw lots :-) What does Audi know about bikes!?!?

Probably about as much as Ducati know about cars. Although Audi do have motorcycling in their distant pedigree; DKW, one of the founder companies of Auto Union (which begat Audi) was in the 1930's the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer. The best-known model was the RT125, the design of which was pinched by numerous countries world-wide as reparations after WW2. In the UK it became the BSA Bantam, and even Harley-Davidson made a version, known as the Hummer.

To add an appropriate touch of racing pedigree, their split-singles dominated lightweight racing between the wars.

IIRC Ducati used to build the 3 litre V8s, badged as 'Ferrari', that went into the very enjoyable Lancia Thema 8.32.

To celebrate the first anniversary of their partnership with Ducati..............

Think it may be their first and last anniversary.

I do wonder what Audi will get from this. Any possible technology sharing?

If it means that the "Duke" survives as a brand then it's good. Is there crossover ? Ask Honda about their VTEC engines !. BMW have a very, very succesful motorcycle brand, you bet there's crossover there as well..
