 Rover 45 - Rover 45 Valuation - Fullchat
Just thought I'd give this a whirl amongst you all.

My mother owns a 2001 Rover 45 1.6 Impression with only 32K on the clock, petrol in silver. She cant drive any more due to her infirmity but its been a good back up for me. However I think its time to get rid.

Good overall nick. A/C just refreshed and works. Cambelt just changed. because of its mileage service history is sporadic with the essentials done by moi. 6months tax just put on and needs an MOT in August. Tank is nearly full. It's a nice drive but it is a Rover after all :-O

Autotrader has a vast variations in prices from about £600 private to £2000+ at dealers for later much higher mileage examples.

Now I know its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it but any thoughts where I should maybe pitch it price wise? I'm thinking maybe £850 - £900. Someone at work is interested but I've not discussed price yet.

Maybe ask for £995 and expect to get £900.

I sold a '51 45 diesel with a blown engine for £550 a couple of years back. A tidy, low mileage one like yours is worth £895-£995 right now as long as you can find someone who's looking for one.

Excuse some slight drift! There are 3 or 4 Rover 45s in my village and ,despite the model's known engine problems I have to say the paintwork is sensationally good, at least on the ones I see. There is a Y plate that is indistinguishable from new, looking at paint. Is your silver one in good order on that front?

Seem to be loads left.

Indeed, without re-running our recent CityRover thread all over again, one can only assume that the OP's vehicle is typical: low mileage senior citizen run-arounds.

Some actuals that might help...

Looking at completed recent listings on Ebay there have been 28 listed with less than 70k miles between £650 - £1995. Just 5 of those sold making between £359 - £850.

If you apply a tighter mileage filter to under 50k miles that leaves just 7 cars and only 1 of those sold, for £620. That was a 2002 1.6 with 36k and full service history.

As a useable tidy looking car as long as the senior image doesn't offend thay are something of a bargain really.

Decent ride and drive, if I recall, and Rover interiors were a cut above the likes of Ford and Vauxhall.

Looks like Fullchat's estimate of £800-£900 is about right.

Good car for somebody at that price.

Young guy who is taking out next door's teenage daughter has a british racing green one. Immaculate condition despite its years. Thankfully, so far at least, he hasn't put wide wheels and a cherry bomb exhaust on it. Probably only a matter of time...

Thanks for responses. Yes its a typical low mileage pensioners hack except when I give it a good carbon clear out. I hate to admit it but I don't mind driving it. I forgot about ebay to get some idea of price.
I don't want to rob anyone nor do I want to give it away. It will be a good bangernomics car for someone with many miles left in it.
Probably pitch it about £975 and see how we go on.

Meldrew. Indeed it is. Apart from a slight mismatch on one of the doors where some gravel rash was sorted.

Local areas make a big difference to its value. In big cities there is not much demand for bigger engine cars like this as they can be expensive to insure etc. However in more rural areas it will make a decent comfortable cheap run around.

The low mileage and FSH will sell the car, not the badge and there is a real shortage of genuine cars like this, so I reckon it will easily fetch £1k+ simply as it is getting so hard to find genuine cars in this age range.

I think Rover were pretty good in this area from the R8 200 onwards. I still see a J reg 214 SLi hatch about locally. It's a little bit dog eared, which suggests it isn't mollycoddled, but there's virtually no rust on it at all, and still a real shine to the paintwork.

I'm just trying to remember the last time I saw an 20 year old Astra, Escort or Golf in anything like the same condition. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw a 20 year old Astra or Escort at all.

So they should, they used that basic body shell for about 15 years, if you do it long enough you get it right

I'm sure I recall Rover having one of the most advanced pant shops of its time at one point.

Would these still be of an era before they were using the low VOC paints?

I remember the paint shop too. Apparently it was kept 'ticking over' for years after Rover bit the dust, as it is impossible to restart cleanly one stopped. May still be going today, for all I know.

Seen a good half dozen of these close up today on my walk to the Office (three car park walk !) - they all seem in remarkably good order, the oldest was a W reg - still shiny paint....remarkable what here makes you notice !

Update.

Today, with a tear in my eye, the Rover departed. I must say I was a little sad to see it go. I suppose it was the family connection. I had become a little attached to it after running it around for several weeks then taken it to Hinkley to a family funeral on Monday (saw the Triumph factory so not all bad :) ) It purred on like a good un. It had developed a few of those annoying little creaks and groans from the dash and no amount of tinkering could locate them. So there we are end of an era.
Oh the price, pitched it at £950 on our in house selling forum and got £800 for it so not too bad.
