A private buy 2007 2.5 AWD V6 Jaguar SE automatic saloon with less than 20K miles.
Light metallic blue ( Zircon?) with full leather ( Barley?)

The SE comes with lots of extras but this has quite a lot more.
Sat Nav and integrated phone,Heated screen, Heated and electrically adjustable driver’s and passenger’s seats with lumbar adjust, Power folding heated mirrors, Front and Rear parking sensors, Cruise control auto dimming mirror, 17" wheels with a full size alloy spare wheel, CD player, Jaguar mats.

No Xenon lights, sunroof or split rear seat.

Gave it a run fom Esher to Oxford and back yesterday but early days yet.
Enough power for me:-)
Obviously I can easily compare it with my MK II Mondeo Ghia X.
Suspension / ride is much better even thought the tyre pressures are high (non comfort). SWMBO prefers the Mondeo's ( softer) seats.
The light coloured leather compensates for black leather and sun roof.
The sun roof was never open ( except for DIY loads ) but lightened the cabin.
Mondeo steering wheel is much much nicer than plastic Jag offering.
I will investigate changing it
Cruise control is far better than the Mondeo - neater, less controls and easier to use.
Radio controls on the wheel are better than the Mondeo stalks.
Mondeo is much quieter than the Jag. I hope it is mostly tyre noise but I think some may be wind noise.
Much as I expected, and read, the lights are poor compared with my uprated Mondeo.
A/C is much more powerful as is expected from model that is exported to the USA .
Lots of things controlled from the big touch screen so lots of reading to do.
The first auto dim mirror I have used and I do not like it.

I have obtained from Ebay the very neat roof bars that bolt into the roof.
I will update the lights with Philips x 4 X-treme bulbs and also side lights.
Seems the EBC brake pads are worth fittiing.

So back to RTFM and the Jaguar forum. A steep learning curve.
Visited my local main dealers glass palace today. Impressive to its Esher customers and a little less to me.

So overall I am impressed with my purchase and it may well be my last buy ( at 8K miles a year) I am fortunate to be able to run it but it is a lot of metal for the £££s.

Nice! The auto dimming mirror will grow on you.

Glad you're pleased, Henry. Hope it works well for you.

Still waiting to try out the autodim mirrors (yes, the driver's door mirror does it too) in/on the Überwagen. After four weeks I've yet to drive it anywhere in the dark, and it may be a few more weeks before I do. No idea how good the xenon lights are, for the same reason. Are they growers too, like Henry's mirror?

Sounds very nice henry, you must feel like a million dollars driving it, reminds me of when I bought an old English white XJ6 4.2 with red leather interior while living on a sprawling sowf lunden council estate.

The other tenants used to doff their caps whenever I drove onto the estate.

They thought you were the usual "undercover" old bill.

Does AWD mean simple switchable 4wd or a trick part-time system like the excellent VAG one fitted to a friend's Octavia 1.8T? That worked very well the only time I ever made it work.

Non switchable and appears to be a prt time system.

I certainly do have a smile on when I drive it.

It is exciting as not since my first car have I gone to market with funds to make such a choice. All others have been restrained by not wanting to spend too much.

There are lots of X-Types around but my first car was a white 1600E ( 18 months old) with a black Everflex roof and other extras.
All petrol heads and a lot of the public recognised the 1600E.
My first car and that made me feel king of the road.

There is so much expensive metal in my area that it will go totally un noticed - sob!

I went to Waitrose and came out to find a new Jaguar XKR supercharged adjacent.
Even if I had not recognised it I noted it had Jaguar supercharged embossed around the wheel hubs.

Dare I ask how much Sir. SIL has a manual 2.0D and it is a very nice place to be. He paid £4.2k. 54 plate 80k on clock. Thought I'd ask as I fancy shooting the Colt and getting one too.

>>Dare I ask how much Sir.
My offer of £7.5K bought it. It was a genuine one owner real reason for sale vehicle.
Ticked most boxes so happy to pay that price.

I ran into the some sort of problems as looking for a Mondeo III.
Market dominated by road warrier versions
Black, Diesel, Manuals ( + Mondeos were hatchbacks)
Jaguars also had more colours available.

I wanted a petrol, auto, light coloured saloon with low mileage.
I am a low mileage user so paying a premium for diesel did not add up.
In effect trading lower purchase price & peace of mind for hight tax & fuel cost.
IMO it is OK to run diesel in the first 3 years but buying S/H after that with the risk of big bills ( Mis- fuelled?) etc is not for me.

The model was restyled 2008-2010.
Fat bumpers, XJ type grill, door mirror indicators.
Sovereign was added with many more extras than mine.

The lights were dreadful on my wife's car (2.0d SE estate), so at a service I had the bulbs upgraded (not xenons). Improved it a lot, they weren't that dear either. Wish i'd done it a long time ago. Main beam was fine, but dipped was bad.

We like the car a lot....which is why we've had it 7 years now.

I fitted four Osram Silver Stars and Philips W5W Blue vision side light bulbs on the Mondeo and was well pleased.
For the Jaguar, Osram Night Breakers are one option but I think I will fit four Philips +80% Extreme Power ( legal 55 Watts ) and of course the W5Ws.

Mine is def Blue but does appear to change hue quite a lot depending on the light.
What is the real colour?
A Google for glacier blue jaguar X Type gives a good varied range of colour :-)
Most of the early pics are for the, just later than mine, revised 2008/9 vesion with the botox bumper and the XJ grill.

The Interior shots in the Autotrader ad looks like different cars.

Jaguar offer many designs of wheel.
Mine are Bermuda (£340 plus VAT ouch!!) which are easy to clean.

At present I only have the autotrader ones .
I have been soooo busy reading up and RTFM I have yet to take any photos.
I will find a photo venue and see what I can do

I have not yet cleaned it or attempted to remove the wheels ( with their dodgy locking nuts ) Must buy McGuard replacements!

Over the recent years I have been steadily retreating from tasks on cars but I now have a few to sort out.

I do have a concern that the boot can only be unlocked electrically with no mechanical back up. For starters that leads to the question so where should jumper leads be stored ?
Many moons ago, in Ireland our hired Hilman Hunter would not allow the boot to be opened. My fellow passenger solved it with a scaffold pole as a lever. we were not charged for the substantial damage. I want to avoid a repeat :-)

Handsome - yes BUT! Them and atchbacks are noisier and wobbly.
My man and a van would do the run to the dusty tip so, having no kiddywinks to transport its a saloon for me.
Meanwhile I have a lots of new toys to play with and it is 99.9% rust free so one less worry.
However I still hope it is the tyres that make it noisier than my 140K 14 year old Mondeo. What tyres ? Jaguar say Pirellis Ho hum! I know my Kumhos are very quiet and I am not hooning round Esher. Must get out and sort the pasture ( ex lawn) asap.

Can't see an emergency release in the boot of the 3 Series - I went out to have a look. Nothing in the hand-book either. Oh well

From what I have read, it is a requirement in the USA to have an emergency manual release within the trunk of saloons. I guess for kids use.
The spec seems to include it being a bright colour which is useful in the dark :-)
So the US might be a source of approved parts for a start of a modification.
It would still need to function outside the boot and allow for the boot being full of stuff.

Well fielded WDB.
You could also have pointed henry in the direction of an S60 which has a separate, mechanical boot lock mechanism should the unlikely happen and the electronic release fail. Proper car :-)

forgot to add, the V70 doesn't have the separate mechanical lock. Estate drivers can just clamber over the back seats and release the load cover in the unsecured load area.

Y'know, Gmac, I'd forgotten all about the S60's mechanical release. Yes, according to the handbook, it's under a little black cover in the number plate light mounting and is worked with the key, but I've never needed to use it. In fact, since I did use the spare wheel briefly last year, that and the TC Off button may be the only features I've never used.

Does anyone else worry about not being able to get into the boot after a rear-end accident? The S60 has folding seats, but the release handles are in the boot too, so if someone bent my car to the point where the boot wouldn't open (I once saw a cricket team-mate do this to his own Peugeot saloon in a pub car park with the help of a tree; awkward since we were just setting off to an away game and it contained half the team's kit) there might be a long wait for assistance without access. This is what makes me carry at least one extra item of clothing on the back seat in all but the warmest weather. Not a problem now with the estate car, of course, as Humph makes clear.

If someone rear ends your car to the point where the boot doesn't open normally would you really worry about crow baring it open ?
It's not like you'd really do much extra damage considering the value of a used S60 in the market place.

I now read that there are reports in the US of very serious problems with early X- Types rusting. Not just cills but up the A pillar.
I have not ( yet) seen UK reports of this.

Just 19/20% was Mondeo but IIRC that % included a shortened floor pan.
Comminality extends to Focus ST brakes as an easy upgrade and a few other mechanical bits.
