Team 'Sky' using Jaguar Sportbrake in TDF - a900ss
First one I've seen on the telly....

Looks very much like my 5 series touring from the back, just prettier from the front (the jag that is).

I watched the TdF today but missed the Jaguar.

Here's a link to some photos.

I wonder how much the bikes whistle up on the roof? ;-)

Jaguar could easily have botched the job of making an estate variant of the XF, but I think that they have done very well. It's sufficiently practical and handsome enough to be a serious contender against the German so-called "premium" brands.

Just must get a mini-rant off my chest though...
I'm sick of all these poseur names for Estate cars. "Touring", "Avant", "Sports Tourer", "Shooting Brake (Merc CLS)" and now "Sportbrake".

The best estate cars are called just that, i.e. "Estate" No need for fancy names.
To name but three: Skoda Superb Estate, Ford Mondeo Estate, Mercedes E-Class Estate.

Council Estate?

Been there ( at Goodwood Festival of Speed ) so have seen and touched one and got the brochure:-
2.2L 4 - stop/start, 3.0 V6 L/240 or 3.0L V6 S/ 275 says the book. Looks like there are no petrol versions.

The diesel S has
"A smart 8 speed transmission for almost imperceptible superfast gear shifts box - with the abilityto multi down shift, or block shift so avoiding loss of power associated with sequential changes"

Lots of nice photos but not much tecnical info.

What does 'estate' really mean in car terms? Not many people own enough land to make a utility vehicle essential, do they?
I've had a Sportwagon, an Aerodeck and a High Performance Executive.
In France they call them 'breaks', which presumably is a mistaken use of 'shooting brake'.
It's only words. ;-)

ps: the Jaguar is one of the few new cars in decades that has given me the 'want one' feeling, but I can't justify the size really. A shame it has come along too late for me.

Jaguar are also dropping the NA 5.0L V8 in favour of a supercharged 3.0L V6. It has slightly less power but much better mpg.

Council shooting and break are quite appropriate tho.

Yes but so are the run of the mill yuk cars ala Ford Escort Estate. There are worse names, aka Mini traveler, which makes you sound like you are a tarmac expert, and of course the Americanism the "Wagon" which makes you sound like some pilgrim or some western cook with the cow hounds riding up for their "vittles" at your "chuck wagon"

It may surprise you to know you can actually get an Evo version of the Lancer Estate as a grey import, its called the "Sports Wagon" Have to say its sounds like a Wild West mobile brothel.

As far as the Yagwar Sportbrake, goes, yummy car silly name. If I had one (yes please) it would simply be called "the Jaaaaaag"

In the Czech Republic, the estate version of a car is known as a "Caravan" (sp?). I remember a Czech former colleague trying to explain to me she had an Opel Astra Caravan as a company car back home. Took a while to get what she was talking about.
