Learner drivers look set to be heading to Halfords or a fire station to take their test, under plans being finalised by ministers.
Transport minister Mike Penning told MPs the aim was to provide a "more local service for candidates".
Tests will continue to be carried out by Driving Standards Agency examiners and the deals are not exclusive.

yer you really need learner drivers outside off a fire station . halfords rarely have their own parking . do they they?

It seems barely 18 months (*) since they changed to a smaller number of larger centres - that worked well, then :-)
Or thereabouts - I know this because the local test centre operated out of our building for a few weeks while they were re-located, and you took your life in your hands every time you went anywhere near the car park

my driving test centre is pretty local ...its not near halfords or the water plod...dont see the reason for this cobblers
