Lexus mounts Audi in Bedroom crash - Londoner
What a bizarre story this is. I wonder what the circumstances were? I haven't the foggiest!
From the BBC:

(P.S. Isn't this in Zero's country? Maybe the local news has more details?)

This link (found on the BBC report) has a much better photo.

3am. Three men in Lexus. Straight road. Too much speed. Fail to negotiate bend.
Here it is on Streetview. goo.gl/maps/OFEBw

It must take a lot of energy to demolish a post box, sign and fence, force your way across a car park and launch a car to that height.

Smart bit of analysis, Crocks. Your explanation makes sense!

it appears that a low car was used as a launch ramp.
how does one break a post pox, those things are 4ft below ground and cast iron.

This lunchtime, ITV had an on site report .
The post box was smashed and its lid was several yards into the garden.
The reporter remarked on an "interesting" insurance claim.

If the Citroen AX owner had not been blocked in by the AudiTT the Citroen AX would have squashed and absorbed a lot of the force and saved damaging the house ;-) Weren't they made of plastic. Would make a good crumple zone.

But blimey - what speed was the Lexus actually doing!

Can't make out what model the Lexus was, but if its original iS model which i suspect, they really are very tough.

Where SWMBO worked many moons ago, someone launched a iS200 from a flyover straight onto the M25 where car ended up on its roof, all walked away from the wreckage.

The evidence.

The very strength of the post box may have been the launch ramp?

Nothing in the story I read about any arrests or charges being considered. Is the driver going to blame the cruise control I wonder? Seems lucky that no one in the car was killed.

If the driver had been a little bit more "successful" at taking the bend a concrete lamppost awaited. I wonder how different the outcome of that would have been.

The post box is about 100 feet from the house.
Hitting the post box will certainly have unsettled the Lexus.
I think it must have been the automotive equivalent of the hop, step and jump!

I'll try and watch the 6pm news to see if they repeat the item.

Looking at the damage to the Audi and Citroen I wonder if the Lexus was doing cartwheels over them.

We get a much more stylish and artistic class of car crash in surrey

it must have taken a huge force to damage that post box because many years ago i hit one at 50mph and destroyed the car front end and post box was cracked but safe. i hit it with a bmw 735 so no lightweight.

strange physics involved here or a strange chain of events to launch a car 100ft after already hitting a post box.

Maybe the car hit the kerb at the junction across the road from the mailbox and was already airbourne and only hit the top of the mailbox. That is more likely to rip it from the ground and slow the car less.

I saw the article on the local ITV news.
Looks like the car was being driven by Barnes Wallis. Postbox - Audi TT - Honda Jazz - Wall.

i bet a stunt team couldn't recreate that crash. i believe no one was hurt, thank god.
id love to know the speed involved.

Just an arrogant, pushy, South East driver at normal speed. :-)

Perhaps the driver of the Lexus saw the blue Hospital A & E sign on the lamp post and thought "Hey! This would be a good spot for a crash"

Seriously, I'm very glad that everyone is not only same, but reported as having only minor injuries. The pics would suggest something much worse TBH.

I think the nearest hospital is the cottage hospital and the sign says "No A&E". The nearest A&E is at the general hospital on Dorking road.

I've never heard of a car mounting another before. If it resulted in a pregnancy would the offspring be a Leudi or an Aexus?

There are documented cases of it happening between larger vehicles, though:

You'd hope the car case wouldn't result in twins, or you'd get even more tortured attempts at inappropriate Latin plurals than we already do in anything that mentions more than one Lexus.
