I don't think the point was nannying, I think it was that it was probably unnecessary and could easily have resulted in resources being used to rescue them when they must already have been at full stretch elsewhere.

A bit pompous though. And pointless, since they hadn't got stuck,

In a snorke'd land rover he was obviously OK.

OTOH there have been at least two cases in last year of more ordinary cars being swept away by cross currents with fatal results.

Yes, wasted on that driver, there is no cure for stupidity. It may give other drivers brains a nudge into action though. At least his car filling up with water would help keep the wheels on the ground, but the electrics, a snorkel won't help them.
