Virtual pint to whoever gets the closest to what I got.

12 months MOT, 6 months tax, 74K miles

It cost me fifty quid six years ago. I immediately spent a couple of hundred on brakes, exhaust and wheel bearing for its MOT. I've subsequently spent countless hundreds, probably, on cam-belt, suspension arms, other brakes, scrapyard starter, service items and about £150 on a scrapyard gearbox, new clutch and ancillary bits (but that was self-inflicted).

£350, and does the new owner know what that poor little car has had to suffer in its time with you?

Impressed with how well it cleaned up.

Did you show them the muddy photos?

"Never raced or rallied"..........just autotested.
"Two careful owners"............and then you. :-)

£350

Edit. gb beat me to £350 so I'll say £360

It would weigh in for scrap at the ton. A years ticket is worth 150 quid

So 250.

£375

If it's a little ripsnorter, £450 might seem a good price.

If it isn't, then £200 - £250. It could still last years and won't be thirsty.

Cars that have been treated like Meccano can be very good once you have sussed out their little ways. But I like the damn things and I'm not remotely shrewd about the bread side.

12 month ticket and 6 months tax must be worth £500+

Have you seen how BT treated the KIA! Mechanically he's given it a very hard life.

That was not a good day. Long, wet grass on a steeply, sloping field with carp tyres. More a case of keeping going than going fast.

We improved a lot over the years: tinyurl.com/buqlo4j

You and I know, but most prospective punters wont!

It would have been two balloons and a goldfish with the broken gearbox...

£380.

Hope you don't need counselling ;-)

A pint to Manatee.

I asked and got £400. I suspect Humph saw the Autotrader ad!

You can see how folk get ripped off. This couple turned up and didn't even want a test drive. They recounted a tale of how they spent thousands on a Clio whose spare was a different size and didn't fit and then its immobiliser disabled it. It now sits useless. They'd looked at several cheap cars that were all obvious dogs. One guy told them the car they'd come to see had been sold, but he had another!

I've had the usual 'sus' replies, including the missionary who wants me to open a paypal account and one guy who wanted me to deliver it to him and then he'd pay me.

I think I'll let the ad run for a while to what other curiosities it throws up.

Good result Tom.

For all my leg-pulling, having used a Pride for a short while the only basic problems with the car were its image, its unfortunate encounter with an ugly stick and the fact that even a relatively new one felt fifteen years old.

It's odd how even the most maligned of budget cars inspire a very loyal fan-base though; the Skoda Estelle being a case in point. Even the Dacia Duster has a forum!

Getting the best out of a basic car can be more fun than getting 80% out of a better one.

One of the reasons James Hunt had a A35 van!

When I sell a car I always remove the tax disc and claim a refund from DVLA. The tax disc isn't part of the car.

"The tax disc isn't part of the car.'

The envelope isn't part of the letter but my mam always knows that I care about her when I send them together.

I wanted to continue using it until it went and also demonstrate it to any potential buyers. To remove the tax disc would mean they couldn't legally drive it off. It would also seem mean spirited and churlish.

We can't all afford to buy new Vulvas from main dealers!

Without in any way wishing to cause offence, I would regard a private seller who had removed the tax disc as worryingly tight and it would occur to me that they might have skimped elsewhere on the car. All transactions are at their best when they feel like a winning scenario to both parties. When one side feels had over it's never satisfactory.

I agree bt. But did you drain the fuel tank? :-)

They had just about enough in it to get them home (I think).

Seriously, I didn't drain any, and it was much closer to empty than full.

Wouldn't have mattered if they hadn't. That almost-vertical hatch door on the Pride is so designed as to save owners having to bend too far when pushing them. ;-)

I used a Pride courtesy car for about a month.

I really liked it, the only thing i would have changed is to put some better shockers on the rear to damp the Zebedee multiple rebounds.

If it rode like that, then the best place to take it would be Hemel Hempstead, to the (in)famous "Magic Roundabout"! :-)

The springs and shocks on mine were very soft. They fitted stiffer springs on later UK models. It didn't suffer from rebound problems, but it was carp at cornering, with masses of body roll and full understeer.

Perhaps that was why it was so good off-road?
