A hard car to price - Iffy
A neighbour is selling his 08 Kia Magentis for £7,850.

As others on here have found out, these funny cars can be hard to shift.

In its favour it's silver, but against is the fact it's a big Kia with a boot.

Weren't these going for half price or 'two for one' a year or so back?

I wonder what my neighbour might have paid.

And is his sale price about right?

Sounds a bit much to me.

Quick search on autotrader shows 2008 ones from 5699 with no more than average mileage

...3K...

I'd tell him - but his wife's got more tattoos than he has.

Id hazard a guess that its worth £4500 but he will want more and thus it will be growing roots where it is. Its not just obscure, its also not of any talent other than being cheap, unless you ask too much. Nice cars, but at a price.

Unless its a diesel, its staying where it is.

Good point, Zero.

Hold on, I'll just get the binoculars out....

....CRDi badge on the boot lid, so it's a diesel.

Looks a decent spec, too, leather, rear parking sensors.

Tow bar - suppose that could go against it in some buyers' eyes.

Guy near me runs one of these as a minicab. I imagine local cab cos would be keen to snap it up.

On a similar note I followed a Y reg 2001 Ford Focus on the M1 from Luton to the M25 yesterday. No idea of mileage but it was advertised at £3590.

I thought that was a bit pricey for a nine year old hatch.

I thought they were two pricey at £2k a year back! You can get good MK2s for £5k now.

Do you fancy it?

I'm sure any c4p contributor nearby would go and view it as a prospective buyer and declare 'nah, it's not worth half that'.

Of course, you'd have to move, or park it elsewhere if you acquired it. ;>)

If they'd listened to iih and bought a ford they wouldn't be having this problem! :-P

Craig,

Happy to cough to that one - I do see the motoring world through blue oval tinted spectacles.

But Fords have been like the old raincoat to me and my family - never let us down.

I can't see my dad ever buying anything but a Ford in the future. He was about 50 when he bought his first Ford but all of them very relaible I think it will be impossible to to suggest something like a Kia to him.

The KIA Magentis was being sold 2-for-1 in 2008 when car sales were in the doldrums - £7500 bought you a brand new 2.0 family saloon as long as you had someone wanting to buy another for the same price.

I think you could buy them individually for about £8500.

GLASS'S guide (via Network Q) suggests £6300 trade-in for an 08 2.0 petrol LS with 20k miles.

Update.

Magentis now gone and replaced with a shiny new C'eed estate.

Obviously the only way he could get rid of it was to p/ex it to a Kia dealer.

Happens all the time to people who buy this funny stuff - they end up trapped and have to buy the same again.

Either that, or it's lose a lot of money to get back into mainstream motoring.

Why he wanted to sell a 2008 car so soon?

because you can get 2 cadavers in the back of a ceed estate
so hes doing his little bit for global warming by cutting down on journey times?

...Why he wanted to sell a 2008 car so soon?...

Dunno, we're not in regular conversation.

Can only guess he wanted an estate, or maybe Magentises are not even the little amount they are cracked up to be.
