No spare in hire car - retgwte
Interesting in the wifes hired toyota there is a jack and wheel brace but no spare (or space for one) or can of sticky stuff either.

If they are trying to save weight by not putting a spare wheel in what is the point of the weight of the jack?

Answers please?

So you can jack up the car and replace the wheel/tyre? Or take the punctured one off to take it to Kwikfit or wherever.

replace the wheel/tyre with what? thin air?

any problems with the tyre and there would be no alternative but to call the AA or RAC and they already have a jack

My wife's had a flat on drive before and I've removed it and driven off on a Sunday morning to Kwikfit with it.

if we were at home and my car was there then we would have a jack!

the jack in the boot has only one point and that is when you are far away from home?

Just checked on toyota website, apparently they are supposed to come with a tyre repair kit. Seems likely the hire car company remove these on purpose as they cost so much and expect driver to ring recovery if any issues.

Or the previous hirer nicked it and the hire car company hasn't spotted it missing yet. If I were you, I would mention it to them in case they try and point the blame at you.

Odd though that the jack and brace are present, if they don't fit a spare. Usually you either get the tyre repair kit, or a spare and jack etc.

Wifey's Jazz has jack & brace but no spare. I think you're supposed to jack it up before squirting in the gunk. The instructions tell you to check the tyre for damage etc so I suppose it ought to be jacked up for that. There needs to be a 12V compressor too.

Have you checked all the cubbies in the car, i suspect the kit or spare (if room) has been nicked by another hirer and thats quite regular, hope they don't try to pin the loss on you when you return the car.

I picked up a 6 month old Fiesta amongst the lorryload of ex renter sale cars i picked up from Manchester airport a few years ago, felt for the spare wheel underneath which dislodged it and a 30 odd year old wheel from a 70's Escort fell on the floor, tyre might even have been a cross ply..they'll nick anything.

edit.. see Vx is thinking the same.

edit again, is there space for the tyre under the boot floor?

Its a new Auris.

There is a wheel well perfect for fitting a spare tyre into. but its just filled with polystyrene containing the jack and wheel brace. no space for the tyre without binning the polystyrene.

If I bought one I'd go buy a spare wheel and stick it in there, wonder how much that would be.

Its got full fat insurance they can claim what they want its not our problem.

Is the policy in your name?

I thought you were supposed to inform your own insurance company of claims made on other motoring policies you also have.

Correct.

In fact, any claim on any policy in any name.
