The filling stations must make a bit on a hot day. Maybe petrol ought to be sold in units of weight?

I assume the relevant temperature is that of the fuel. The temperature underground must vary considerably less than the air temperature above ground. I doubt if it makes much difference.

Friend of the family had a string of outlets handling diesel for hauliers.
He used to complain about the temperature it was delivered at, being higher than the temerature he sold it at and on the volumes he handled the value was significant.
