It has got HDC - so yes, it will come down hills very slowly......not a Beemer or an Audi.

Oh all right then... Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee? Toyota Land Cruiser? Nissan Patrol?

 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
I'm thinking PeterS might be on the money with the Evoque

Volvo - No not an XC !
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills

And there's always the chance of being taken - mistakenly of course - for a, well, er, mimser is the only word really.

I know that image is out of date, but so am I rather (and traces of traditional Volvodom still have to be dealt with in certain areas of the capital)... Doubtless you will be making stylish progress like Pat in her new svelte modern Volvo thing...

Anyone with a new car to play with is to be envied of course, joshing aside. Haven't had one of those for ages.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
A real proper R model?
Well jel if you have.

Or for the well off a new V60 Polestar.

Well - I fell in love with it. V40 Cross Country T5 (254bhp) - a worthy successor to the 3 Series. 8 Months old 5k on the clock. Looks like a 1600 diesel....stealth fighter !
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
>> V40 Cross Country T5

I was gonna say that.

I was !

It was the European bit which threw me. "Scandinavian" no?

More details required. Colour, trim etc.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
European bit threw me too. Since when's China been European? ;-)
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
Very nice as a certain London mayor might say.

Tow bar fitted for the petrol bowser? ;-)

I've got a sneaking suspicion it's a four in the new platform which will only take a four.

Wow, a road rocket! Well done... and you will still be mistaken for a mimser with a bit of luck.

Chapeau actually.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
It'll certainly go that's for sure ! Aye but c'mon two Volvos on the drive !

Matching Christmas jumpers ordered?

;-))

 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
It's getting weird the number of bikers driving their road going nemesis.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
It has got a tow-bar actually ! Sort of burnt orange colour - with a black/ivory leather interior...had a good go on it. Rides on 17"ers so the ride quality is pretty svelte - has all the numerous goodies, including the premium sound system, adaptive cruise and lights (Xenon) - very, very smooth to drive...also has that trick autoparking feature - not going to mess with that - cockpit is like an Eurofighter, with a serious computer with Nav and that - Sweden is in the EEA ! !

Looks like a demure little shopper....should scare a few around here.

When did / do you get it?
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
Saturday next week. Which sorts of suits me...
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
I'm still sorting out the sound on the Premium sound fitted in mine. Bass is much deeper and richer than from the HU650 in my previous S60 but the speakers are lower in the car and need more rear fader to balance out.

DAB is a bit hit miss. Good when it can pick up the signal. In Cologne this week I found there are 23 DAB stations broadcasting, my car can find 4, one of which is the 24 hr traffic channel.

Sat Nav is v. good, very clear 7" screen. Don't bother buying the remote control, it really is useless.

There is a Garmin system built into the V50 with a remote....I find it OK - especially if the wife is driving !!
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
The new system has Alpine CoCs all over the place for BT. The remote for the multimedia system takes four AAs, quite a weighty implement when fully loaded. I tried a DVD gave up and went back to controlling from the steering wheel.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
Among the many, many features are grocery bag holders....ffs.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
That is actually really useful and stops stuff flying about in the boot.
I had it on my last S60, it's not in this one and was noticed by its absence.

I'm in two minds about the boot net too for RHD as it has not been converted for RHD. You buy three nets and one of them cannot be used...

Don't you have an airport or station pick-up Hr. Flick or are you just killing time between fares. ;-)
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
Order now and it should be here by the time you get the car...

Come on Runfer you've had Volvo's before and drive a three pointed star now. Do you really think a Volvo grocery back holder would hold less than two 10litre crates of beer?

Heh heh !

The Merc came with a fold up wine rack/crate stashed under the boot floor.

No look, I'm sure they're still very nice indeed. S'long as the cambelts hold out of course. Shouldn't be a worry I expect. Probably quite rare for them to fail. More or less a negligible risk no doubt...

;-)
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
Never had one fail on me in nearly 2m miles. Ancillary belts now there's a problem looking for a chain. Any suggestions?

My X Type has a " Curry" hook" !! :-)
so maybe an XF SPORTBRAKE
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
>>My X Type has a " Curry" hook" !! :-)

Well, it was made in Birmingham in fairness to it. I expect the Volvo ones are designed to cope best with bulk quantities of meatballs and pickled fish.
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
I often wondered what the cellar like orifice was in the boot of the 3 series, clearly for storage of larger. Not worried about cam-belts - it has done 5 thousand miles, it has plenty of warranty left.

Currently the 3 Series cost 225ish to insure with L&V....just done an online quote with them and they quote me an incredible £175 for class 1 business use....
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
Shhhh ! They'll all be driving Volvo's if you let the cat out of the bag how cheap they are to insure.

Leave Runfer to cart his empty (he doesn't drink you know) wine rack around in the boot. Just think how many shoes Imelda Marcos could have carried in that wasted space...
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Baz
It's the same unit the old Focus ST was fitted with I think. Which makes it a cracker! Although expect 25 mpg and a cause for celebration if you ever crack 30mpg! Then again, you're not doing a high mileage....
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - ....
Just read the V40 does not get the SPA platform so gets the proper T5 5 cylinder :-)
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
It sounded like the five cylinder....aurally sounded very much like the six in the Beemer. Just insured it 220 quid to include legal cover and business use....bargain. Keeping the Beemer insured until I sell it ! Anyone ??

Car will be fuelled up for me on Saturday !
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - Runfer D'Hills
How fast does it go Mister?

;-)
 Goodbye BMW - Hello ???? - R.P.
My FiL gave it beans....he got it down to 10mpg...It is very quick, road conditions were pretty crap.

Seats are first class. Performance is very rapid.....very rapid. Ride quality is good (50 profile tyres), at the moment very impressed.

My wife gave it a blast and I think she surprised a biker as to how it out-accelerated him - 'cos it looks like a skinny latte diesel.

Good engine noise, less intrusive than the 3 Series 6 pot....this five pot is very muted.

Overtaking is a doddle....
