Best Way to Sell a Classic Car? - Duncan
I am thinking of selling my classic car. It's a Morris Minor convertible. What is the best way to sell it?

So far as I can see, there are two market leaders in the online business (not counting ebay) CarAndClassic.co.uk and ClassicCarsForSale.co.uk, they both offer free ads. Where do they get their cut? Has anyone used them?

Are they one company pretending to be two?

I have just the closing date for an ad in The Morris Minor Owners Club magazine.

Any advice?

Duncan,

I have a strong interest in classic cars and I regularly browse carandclassic.co.uk (which is linked to the Classic Car Buyer newspaper) and I buy the Classic Car Weekly newspaper, which is linked to classiccarsforsale.co.uk. I would guess that purchases and advertising in the paper editions pay for the websites.

In your situation I would contact a specialist in that particular model, e.g. Canterbury Convertibles (morrisminorconvertible.co.uk) to see if they're interested in buying the car. Depending on its condition and roadworthiness it could be worth anywhere from £2k to £10k.

You could also advertise on the two websites above, you can produce an eye-catching advert in half an hour with a camera and a PC. There's always next month for the MMOC magazine too. It's certainly the right time of year to achieve the best price for a convertible!
