 Vauxhall - Moving a car - Dobie3
Have just watched Boarhunt Garage move a Vauxhall out of the way so that Colas can fill a pothole.

First they attached a cable to the front somewhere and dragged the car forward with the wheels locked and skidding on the tarmac.
When it reached the lifting device on the back of the lorry they then aligned the car by lifting and dragging the front of the car by the front wings until it was in the desired spot.
It was then towed away.

The car was not parked illegally and no signs or notices were present.

Is this allowed?

I see the garage specialise in Rescue & Recovery, among other things.

Was the Vauxhall in question a vehicle they had previously rescued, or maybe an end of life vehicle?

What was the pre-moved condition of it?

How long had it been there beforehand?

Presumably both Colas and the garage were contracted to the local council. Councils have statutory powers to move vehicles in order to facilitate streetworks. They should post notices before carrying out works, round here there would be signs, statutory notices attached to lamp posts and published in the press if a road is actually to be closed.

Nearly thirty years ago I only avoided my Mini, which I parked in an adjacent street due double yellows outside my house and only used at weekends, being towed because an alert neighbour came round and rang my doorbell.

They didn't know that in Bedford a few years ago... near ATS on Elstow Rd there was an Astra convertible which never moved, and when the road surface was planed and relaid the workers simply worked around it. The neatly shaped section of different colour road surface was still there last time I looked :)

Having just re-read the OPs post, I originally thought the car was obstructing their garage, hence why they moved it out the way for the council. D'oh.
