Tidying alloy wheels, cheaply. - bathtub tom
I've been asked to 'prep' my daughter's, boyfriend's car for selling ('02 Corsa). Nothing special, new wipers, rear wiper arm (yes, I've finally got round to doing it), broken door mirror and general tidy up.

The alloy wheels are well scuffed, but don't warrant a professional refurbish. Any suggestions as to how to tidy them a bit without too much effort and expense on my behalf?

I tidied my Yaris alloys this spring. Lots of scuffs and paint lifting (a common issue for a 53 plate Yaris)
. I used my mini high speed dremel clone to remove the worst of the bubbles , used normal high build filler to fill the holes, wet and dry paper to sand off and a large tin of spray aluminium paint and a small tin of spray lacquer to finish off. (local motor store)

Made a mask for each wheel from newspaper and masking tape.

Elapsed time per wheel : about 4 hours. Actual working time 30 minutes. Rest of time drying water or paint.

Result: from 1 metre away look nearly new. On close inspection you can see it has been filled but unless you are very picky it's great...

Total cost about £12- I had the filler and masking tape already.

Sounds good, I might add a "dreadnaught" file if there are gouges. Madf seems to've been very concientious!

the main thing is to get the colour as near to the original as you can or otherwise you will really devalue the car

Closest colour match for Vauxhall alloys is star silver.

I used CarPlan Wheel Paint: Bright Silver CC WBS500.
500ml costing £3.95 did 4 wheels - two coats each wheel..
Colour match with Yaris? Near perfect...

IIRC Bb you commented on my focusing abilities of an earlier picture:

Would I hold a grudge? ;>)

Thanks for the suggestions.

If it was my car I might go down the re-paint route, but as it ain't..........

I've had less than succesful goes at paint and bodywork before.

I think I might try one of those plastic scourer sponges to try and tidy it a bit.
