From the jaguar website "Each car will be constructed to the exact specifications of their original 1960s forebears – including the 3.8-litre straight-six engine. "

How will these meet the current emissions and safety legislation?

They don't need to.
They are racing cars, not for the road.
Apparently, they will be eligible for historic racing.

That should teach me NOT to post at 02.00. Lesson learnt! Better keep away from EBay and Amazon.

Good looking cars the name Jaguar says it all.

I have two.

Another toy for m**************s to play with.
"Missing 6'' - well, there's convenient.
I suppose one should hope that they are finished before the potential buyers induce the next financial meltdown - which I don't think is far away.
Excuse me for being underwhelmed.

Incidentally, the censors have blocked my genuine description of the potential customers. Perhaps I should have just dubbed them self abusers after all.

The marketing has begun to overshoot a bit at Jaguar. I drove briefly an F type roadster at the weekend, a V6 S. When I pressed the starter it revved itself up and made a loud crackle and pop from the exhaust. I looked at the bloke with me, who was in charge of it, who shrugged his shoulders - "I know" he said, "it's really embarrassing".

The 'look at me' start up noises are provided by the 'active exhaust' which is designed to do the crackling and popping. According to wiki the exhaust "opens special valves over 3,000 rpm to intensify the sound profile."

I hope it can be turned off. I don't think I am in the target market.

That's ridiculous. Crackles and pops from the exhaust on a non turbo injected engine normally just show something is not set up right. With a wild cam and carburettors, yes but it is just lighting up unburnt mixture in the exhaust. Can also indicate the timing being too far retarded.

I wouldn't buy a modern car that did it.

That's absolutely horrible. As Sp points out, it only happens with unburnt fuel filling the exhaust pipe, and ideally stabs or even sheets of flame ought to come out of the tailpipe.

Only one of nature's mimsers would buy a car tuned to sound like that.

The guy from whom I bought the XJS had treated himself to a new 4.2 XK and was keen to show me this same feature when he fired it up. Chacun a son gout.

I'm almost certain the V40 issued some cracks overtaking a mimser at full chat once...still want an E-type !

In a previous life I once went to watch some motor sport in Finland. The Quattro Sport S1 made lots of cracking, hissing noises as it drove by. I used to marshall on the Lombard & Scottish in June and cannot remember if those were pre S1 days or not. Certainly nothing else sounded like them.
That's put me right of the F type! As least the rasp from my old 1300cc Sud was genuine.

Most of the noises that Quattros made were dump valve actuation and antilag. The actual exhaust was quite quiet, presumably because the turbo had taken most of energy.
