Drive across Europe. Site to book stopovers? - teabelly
A friend of mine is going to be holidaying in Tuscany in August. Flights for the whole family are quite expensive so driving there seems to be the next best option as it would save on car hire once there too. But the logistics of working this out are quite tricky. Does anyone know of a website that would do that kind of thing? ie divide whole trip into sensible chunks with recommended campsites, motels or b & bs which would also make it dead simple to book into them?

One which had some inbuilt flexibility would also be good so that if you were delayed it could re-arrange things a bit.

Not sure about arranging in advance, but the Accor group (Ibis, Etap, Formula1 hotels) do a book-a-room-ahead service where, once you've made the first stop (which you could book online in advance), they'll reserve a room for you in your next destination.

At least you'll know each day where you're headed and be sure of somewhere to eat and sleep at the end of it. Used it for an unplanned touring holiday in France a few years ago when our original plans fell through and it worked well.

That sounds quite a good idea. I will suggest that!

You need a map of europe, a ruler, a pencil to work out the route and stops, and google to book the hotels.

Whats tricky about that?

However any of the routing websites (google maps for example) will allow you to specify driving hours

My experience of Bavaria/Austria, if your route goes thru them, is that 1/3rd of all the houses in every village do "Zimmer Frei" = B&B and booking is not necessary as there is much more accomodation than there are people looking for it.
