 Reversing Incident - GreenLantern
Visiting my local Morrisons, I drove into a parking space that a driver in front wanted to reverse into. I hadn't realised this until I'd got out of my car and saw him shouting and gesticulating at me. I told him there were lots of other spaces (which there were) and suggested he 'p**s off' into one of them. When I walked away around the back of his car, he reversed into me. My arm was bumped, but I was not hurt in any way. I took down his number plate as he drove away.
After conducting my business, I was aware of being a little shaken up, so stopped at the police station where I live to ask advice, but found out it was closed to personal enquirers.
Anyway, I don't think motorists should be using their vehicles as weapons, so I thought I'd seek the opinion of other Car4play members.

I'm impressed with your restraint. I've have gone ballistic.

Go to the police. There may be CCTV too.

Simple. If it happened as you describe it, tell that carefully and dispassionately to the police. Think now whether there may have been disinterested witnesses, and whether the incident may have been captured on Morrisons' CCTV. Are you sure it was intentional? Drivers when flustered make elementary mistakes like forgetting what gear they're in.

And perhaps in future confine your comments to a simple 'sorry, didn't realize you wanted that space.'

I confused another driver when I drove forward into a double length space. I briefly selected reverse and used the reversing camera to check I wasn't overhanging the back of the space. He was driving in behind me and did an emergency stop when he saw my reversing lights. I did wait for him to get out and explain. I think he understood!

I would contact your local community police officers, they are the people that will look into it. There maybe CCTV but without the police involvement they won't release it.

I had a similar incident a few years ago where I legally parked out somebody's house to get a load of abuse so I phoned the police as he threatened me, the police operator spoke to the man shouting at me over the phone and warned he would get arrested if he carried on.

You have the right to a copy if you are on it but there can be a reasonable charge for it.
There should be signs in areas covered by CCTV stating who to contact and you should ask for a Subject Access Request Form.

Using the car as a weapon is bad form. If you feel strongly about it tell the police, they will think its bad form as well.

And next time if you have done a bad thing to someone and they complain, apologise and slink off timidly - unless you want to mouth off and mix it with someone, but remember - specially in Morrisons, - they might be a big rucker who will land you one. Had you done that to me I might be tempted.

Absolutely Z, mix it by all means, but never forget the guy who gets out of the other car may well be bigger than you & carrying something heavy / sharp.
At my size & shape, it's not worth even starting anything.

>> Using the car as a weapon is bad form.

A serious understatement.

To drive a car even gently against a pedestrian's legs is a very bad and dangerous thing to do. Most people will jump, bounce and roll and then give the driver a mouthful of knuckles or at least polemic, but not all pedestrians can manage it. And they may be looking another way and not expecting it.

In an extreme case they could end up with both legs broken permanently sideways at the knee, like the lady I mentioned in another thread yesterday: maimed in an assassination attempt by the far right or a far-right faction of the army on her socialist army officer husband, then treated in an overstretched, underfunded Athens hospital (no classy London reconstructive orthopaedic surgery for her, poor old thing).

Mrs Sarafis, an Englishwoman. General Sarafis was a bien-pensant Greek Socialist who threw in his lot with the 'moderate' left during the incredibly complex and awful Greek civil war. The hard left led by people like Aris Veloukhiotis had some real killers in it. Mrs Sarafis was very down on Aris and said he was a predatory homosexual paedophile.

It's still going on in a quiet sort of way I think.

And next time, shop at a better class of shop. We reap what we sow.

As I said on the other forum you posted this on ...

You nipped into the parking place he was already reversing into.
You were then verbally aggressive.
You walked behind a vehicle which must have had its reversing lights on.

You may not have meant to do the first, but there is no need follow it up with #2 and #3. If he was as wound up as you, he may not have been looking properly - its hard to imagine someone having the precision to just brush someone when reversing - if true, he stood a good chance of either missing, or of doing serious harm.

Is it possible that the other driver simply forgot his car was in reverse? He could well have had to slam the brakes on when the OP stole his space, so had both brake and clutch down. If so, then when it took off backwards he realised his mistake and stopped fairly promply - unfortunately nudging the OP. Poor driving, of course - he should have checked, but he too was stressed, just like the OP.

No harm in the OP reporting, but we're only hearing one side of the story and there could well be something equally valid from the other side.

He was stupid, but so were you. I think you both need to relax. Life is too short for incidents like this.

I accidentally stole someone's parking place just before Christmas. I only realised after the fact that she was probably aiming to reverse into it. So I approached her and apologised. We ended up walking into the shop together having both brushed it off, wished each other a Happy Christmas and forgot all about it.

As Tigger said;

You are hardly standing on solid ground yourself.

And as for "using a car as a weapon". a bit of serious getting a life is required. The OP's arm was "bumped" as he walked behind a reversing car.

So I approached her and apologised

A polite apology goes an awful long way. Defuses all sorts of situations. Shame so many folk think it makes their genitalia appear small and insignificant...

Not comfy with the OP. Just my view.....
 Reversing Incident - rtj70
I have been in situations where someone like the OP has deliberately and knowingly taken a parking space. It happens. But he thinks the other driver was in the wrong.
 Reversing Incident - IJWS14
Seems a little odd.

OP hit by car, has reported on 2 internet forums, has not yet reported to police.

I would have been calling the police from the car park- but then I would not have sworn at the other driver either.

Strange that, I had the same feeling when I opened the thread, as I read his post but before reading replies. Doubt whether we'll even hear from him again.

The OP did post it to a number of forums at the time. I don't think Troll as much as trying desperately to gain some sort of endorsement of their view of life.

The thread had died 57 weeks ago, until resurrected by AC above.

To be honest it doesn't seem like AC has any problems with poss from the last week, month year or from time immemorial.

Its posts made during the lifetime of the current bottle of vodka that appear to cause the grief.

A lifetime all too short, and diminishing as I write. I still like to make it last say two and a half days. It's weak stuff after all, and pure. Does little harm to the protoplasm I like to think.

Er, nazhdrovya! sort of thing. I don't get hiccups.

Admirable. And conservative. I could never make that last half day.

Keep on drinking. Someone has to pay taxes for the NHS.
 Reversing Incident - No FM2R
And I'm even more worthwhile since I drink more than most and don't use the NHS.

'Course, I don;t pay UK tax on my alcohol either though...........
