A vast number of photos. A short walk around video of 13 minutes.
Never seen such details on Ebay.
Service record details included.
Fresh service and new tyres fitted.
( My X type says new plugs at seven years.)

Stunning. Always wanted a Jag, but one to drive. I'd feel guilty getting this anywhere near the tarmac.

I wouldn't. It's a very pretty example, but what would worry me was its having spent so long parked and virtually unused. It would need careful, cautious recommissioning and gradual and careful increases in crankshaft speed/power demand.

That would be my instinct anyway. I can't claim special expertise, nor do I know what a 3 litre X type is really like. Pretty nice by my standards I would expect.

I always quite liked these, but then they started adding them to the local Hertz fleet. Had a few on hire and was somewhat underwhelmed. I remember the sport spec being uncomfortable, and all the petrol models being very thirsty

Let me think: do I want a (badly) upgraded unreliable prone to rust Mondeo?

No answer needed.POC.

Do you mean the X type is more unreliable and rustprone than a Mondeo madf, or that they both are?

My car has a quite civilized, when driven economically, and quite pokey, when flogged, four-cylinder engine, but I do like engines with six or eight (or even five) cylinders, in any configuration. Wasn't there a narrow-angle VW V5, or am I hallucinating? I like 3 cylinder units too.

I would expect the Ford V6 to be fairly thirsty if driven with a heavy foot especially. Cheap at the price, I would think if I could afford that sort of car.

I'd have thought a BMW 540i of similar age would (a) cost less, (b) be more reliable and (c) be better to drive and to travel in. Two more cylinders as well - and vastly better looking, if you ask me; the X-type is a horror in a yellow Pringle tank top.

That's strange. We've owned one, from virtually new (demonstrator), for 10 years..and:

- there's no rust anywhere (it's lived o/s for the first 8 years of its life and has done 90,000 miles)
- it has been very reliable
- it still looks good
- it does a good job
- it shares 18% of its components with a Mondeo (a sharing set up that affects most modern cars)
- a Mondeo is a very good car.

You talk out of your backside.

I'm sure they're fine to run around in, and I'm all for buying an older car to get something you wouldn't otherwise buy. But £8k on a 13 year old x type has to be lunacy, surely? A quick look on autotrader shows any number of alternatives around half the age for the same price. A premium for low mileage, yes, but that's just crazy IMO :)

Or to put it another way, that's ten times the price of a great swathe of x types on autotrader. Spend up to a couple of grand and you've got hundreds to choose from. Once you've put a few more miles on teh £8k one it'll be down at that level. Which is worse depreciation than a new car!!

Yes, the ultra-low mileage could be a disadvantage. But that car looks so utterly unblemished too, even the wheels. You'd have to drive the thing, look carefully at the underside and beat the owner brutally down to £4 thousand or less, if you could. I wouldn't dare try.

The online reports put me off, I was thinking about one but too much of a risk for me. But I was surprised at the interior it was better than I thought.

Certainly is. Our Edinburgh office was round the corner in George Street. Conversion of a large Edwardian town house.
