There are a few stories around at the moment about the Justice system being replaced by trial by Facebook or Twitter. I'm beginning to thing they might not be completely wrong.

Of course it is, Running someone over while not insured is a major offence.

Obviously only a minor offence if the driver is under 16!

It would be the ultimate irony if people could use that service when the offence was driving while talking on a mobile phone. Hopefully that offence is too serious for an online plea.

Doesn't all this blur the difference between committing an offence, and merely paying a penalty in order to buy extended permission for some act?
If there is a fixed penalty for different degrees of transgression, then surely it ceases to be a crime and becomes instead a right for which you have paid?
Some cultures extend this principle further, where it's acceptable to murder someone as long as you pay the appropriate blood money to the relatives.
