A taxi driver was tricked out of a £140 fare after passengers left a mannequin wearing a hat in his cab and pretended it was their sleeping friend

Dear oh dear, what a trusting soul.

I haven't done that job for almost a decade, but the golden rule was always that if the job was for more than 20 quid you asked to see cash on the dash, no exceptions.

Never been asked for that before, although the only expensive taxi journeys I take are on business so I guess I must look respectable!

I know the rules for Hackney Cabs in Manchester at least is they are not allowed to demand money up front unless the journey will take them out of the Greater Manchester county. I think private hire cabs can ask what they like.

This story reminds of c1969 when I had to take a naked female mannequin from the film co. in Beak St. W1 where I worked, to Moss Bros in The Strand, by Taxi.

You can just imagine the comments I received en route :0)
