I've been searching online tyre suppliers for tyres size 205/65R15, and there is a choice of ratings - C,H,T,V. What does "C" mean? If I use H-rated tyres on my Dispatch/Expert/Scudo which is used for SDP, not business, will they suit or make any difference?

FT, I would guess that T & V are speed ratings; 118 mph & 149 mph respectively. I can't find any letters below "N" so maybe I'm wrong and this is a different indicator?

You could try www.kwik-fit.com/writing-on-my-tyres.asp see if that helps.

ps someone will no doubt mention the old, but nonetheless valid, doubt that fitting anything rated lower than your original equipment may give your insurance company wriggle room.

There's some stuff here about C being a load rating on light truck tires.

The spelling of tyres suggests this is an American entry, but I suppose 'light truck' could nearly apply, so this might take us some way in the right direction:

Read further down... speed rating 'C' is 37mph!

I've been behind a few who think that's quite enough :-(

I wonder if we are in agricultural tractor territory?

It could be - I looked at www.etyres.co.uk/ just now, no real indication except the "C" ones are "8-ply", which is more AFAIR than "normal" car tyres.

Will you get car tyres with sufficient load index? I'd have thought you'd have been solely on van tyres?

why not just get whatever is on the car now?

OK, on the back are Michelin 205/65R15 94T-XT2 (seem to be Foreign from a Google search).
On the front are Michelin M+S 330 - possibly also a Foreign spec.

National's website is helpful in that it searches on size, speed rating and load index.

Google says the back ones are Michelin Energy's and the fronts are Michelin's XMS snow tyres, well shod Taxicab you've got there FT :-P

Heh! It's done a high business mileage, but not a Taxi. I like it, although I am still getting used to it - have done 500 miles or so. The gear change seemes odd at first, as did having no rev. counter, and handbrake on right. Reverse into spaces - the small extra width compared to Cars I Have Had does make a difference.

Anyway, I've cunningly looked in the handbook, which specifies "205/65R15 94T", £80-100 at National, possibly cheaper elsewhere. Could be worth joining Costco.

Tyreshopper also allows search on load index + other factors, & has different tyres too (they seem to have National fit them cheaper than National's prices (!)).

Tyreshopper is the online arm of National - an ex gf of mine works in their callcentre.

The Xantia's are 205/60 and come in at around £100 each for Michelin.

Tyre rating C is for vans. C stands for commercial.

My current set of low profile tyres feature the words Extra Load or similar to indicate that they can be used with higher weight capacities over the standard version.
