I think most or at least many of the speed traps in the US consist of mobile units which hide in the trees and use a hairdryer as mentioned above, or alternatively operate out of light planes.

Montana did away with these years ago and with speed limits(except for HGV and at night).Now it is just down to the local police/sheriff/marshal-if he thinks the ten mph. you're doing is too quick,that's it-you're guilty!

They've banned freeway speed cameras. But individual cities will still be able to deploy them. That's unless the local citizenry can get enough signatures on to a ballot to have them thrown out there too, which has happened.
