A pregnant commuter has revealed her devastation after she was given a fine in a station car park because her ticket had faded in the sun.

. Louisa Partheniou paid £61 for monthly parking ticket from Southern Rail.

. She was stunned to discover a parking fine when she returned to her car.

. The ink on the ticket evaporated half way through month it was valid for.

. Commuter was then told it was her fault for not parking car in the shade.

Last time I heard of a story like this the parker was advised to "Stick the ticket where the sun doesn't shine"
although that one may have been apocryphal.

It's disconcerting that everyone seems to have dug their heels in over this - normally there's a "we contacted so & so and they cancelled the ticket immediatly" line from the newspaper.

Interesting that the train company suggests using tickets from machine which are thermally printed. While these won't fade they may react to being 'cooked' under the windscreen glass by going uniformaly dark. I 'killed' a travel season in the past by inadvertently ironing it inside a shirt pocket.

It survived washing but died on ironing?? Or are your shirt pockets waterproof?

I've known thermally printed tickets degrade. The 'white' slowly became grey, and so did the printed bits... Not sure how long it took though.

Press reports recently to the effect that warranty claims are made difficult when the receipt recedes from view. Thermal printing has it's upsides for the retailer! tinyurl.com/ju7v4qu

High Value item receipt?

Take a photocopy (does not fade except after decades) of it or take a photo & upload it.

The ALDI receipts used to fade. Went to take something back under the 3 yr guarantee they offer, to find the receipt was blank.

Apparently there is a possible, nay probable, resurrection technique of defunct thermal receipts . Involving irons and hair-dryers etc. Not aware of household items such as these.

They're handed by specialists behind the scenes.

Anyone remember the old Sinclair thermal printer from Spectrum days? The print lasted a couple of months if you were lucky.
