Though IIRC he did sell the business way back in the 50's... I suspect it's rather more successful in its current guise than if it had stuck to sit down fish and chips in a posh setting; dining out in general has been trending in the 'casual' direction for ever!

Edit - Wikipedia says he sold it for £37,500 :)
