Pleasing news. It isn't just that you have to pay, but having to stop at the booths themselves is a pain in the backside, especially when it is busy.

They must be short of Welsh votes, it's all about keeping their place on the gravy train.

Labour are also proposing to scrap the tolls. They are worried about their Welsh votes, they too want to stay on the gravy train.

SNP stopped charging for Forth Road Bridge - the tolls used to pay for maintenance of the "creaking structure". Fair play to the bridge it is carrying 3/ 4 times the volume & is 50+ years old..

Money was cut back on maintenance - major structural failure closed the bridge for weeks causing chaos for lorries, buses & commuters alike.

Here's hoping maintenance shortcuts are not the penalty for the free crossing of the Severn Bridge!

At least we got a new bridge, even if it is only two lanes each way and will still be a choke point. The way the new roads have been configured the old bridge which will be used for buses, taxis, bikes and feet will not be an easy backup. Should have been a tunnel, but that is not a highly visible vanity project!

River crossings are always a bottleneck to any city, look at Glasgow. The Kingston Bridge opened in 1970 to take the main road through Glasgow over the Clyde, was standstill at rush hours almost from day 1, has been worked on most of its life.

Only real change was when the traffic from the M6/M74 was finally rerouted to enter Glasgow from the south instead of looping round and coming in from the north of Glasgow in 2011.
Thankfully they never thought it a good idea to put tolls on that.

Hmmm...be good if the upcoming Runcorn bridge(s) charges were dropped. The Government only recently reduced backed off a previous suggestion that it would be free for Cheshire West and Warrington residents.

They will probably bring in pay-per-mile road charging as mandated in UN Agenda 2030 therefore the charge specifically for the bridge would be covered in the general charging.
