I was in Norway last week, zero tolerance of speeding, and income linked fines. I may not have heard this one right, but 3mg per 100ml alcohol limit, linked fines again, a ban, and join the queue for jail, (they are full). So when your friend says he is going away for a while he means it.

EDIT:- I forgot, points too.

It would be interesting to know how (or if) such measures have affected casualties. Where do you go to wait for jail?

Not sure, I think life as normal, (without a licence), untill you are called in. Probably no passport either.

Its the same in Sweden, you have to wait for an appointment to go to jail.

Are you still allowed to pass "Go" and collect 200 kroner while you're waiting? ;-)

The thing that scared me in Norway was the price of beer.

The Norwegians at the factory I was visiting said they go across on the ferry to Sweden to buy it cheaper, but that they are happy with the situation overall, and prefer it to our drunken nightime city streets.

I was out there near mid-Summer, and found the sky being light at midnight rather odd.
