Day 3 at the police driver school training:

"And this, boys and girls, is called Understeer".

Hahaha...there was some comments on social media about this being a 3 year old Astra with moonshot mileage and its demise won't be missed.

Not much sign of any steering at all. Using radio/eating doughnut?

Weird one. Slow speed - understeers, wonder whether an underinflated tyre played a part ?

Well the front wheels were pointing right, the car wasn't. Entry speed too high, late braking continuing into turn I'm guessing.

It appeared so in the still of the car at rest, didn't seem to be much lock on in the video.

It didn't look that fast, more like steering error to me but I can't be sure.

If you have plough on understeer, no point winding on more lock. Given time and space and quick thinking you can wind it out, boot it up and re-wind on some scrabbling grabby FWD grip and steer.

Looks to me like classic brakes on, locked arms, oh sugar what do I do now - brace - here comes the crunch, plough on understeer. PCSO driving probably.

What we are both possibly ignoring here is that the car will have ESP or whatever. I think if she had got the lock on and lifted off (a natural reaction for most people) it would have done a better job of getting her round.

I just don't think she turned the steering wheel, and it went where it was pointed until it was too late. But that's guesswork, you might well be right.

I think that's about right. The other cars in the convoy managed OK.

How can you not turn a steering wheel to go round a corner?

Operating radio with one hand, ran out of twiddle with the other?

Unfettered speculation of course.

ESC really doesn't do much for plough on understeer.

Bad driving...showboating. Trying to catch up with the others before the incident fizzles out. Blue mist descending ! Too fast !

The link worked fine.... police embarrassment and they asked for it to be removed?

Maybe Astra's are really that bad at handling ;-)
