Neat job. My old eyesight gets the impression that it is a bit too tall to get into the space at the top of the ramp?

Yes, not sure what's going on there.

Wouldn't towing a normal car be easier?

Looks like a neat job anyway.

The 'has the vehicle been modified' conversation with the insurance company might be interesting.

Is it me, or is there a big dent in the wing?

Interesting - he has reduced the width - anybody know the original width?

Wiki gives 1.4m (55.1 in) so I don't think it has been narrowed other than putting strange door mirrors on.

Several years ago I valued a house. The owner was retiring and intended to live permanently in a German made motorhome of very high specification and drive around Europe.

Included in the rear was a garage and depending on the design could fit either a Smart Four Two or the Smart Roadster. One design was short and high, the other long and low. Internally the difference in the payout of the bathroom and bedroom.

A couple of years ago, a former colleague phoned to say he was heading South and could he call for a cuppa as he had something to show me.
Half an hour or so later, up rolls a 6 wheel Hymer towing a LHD Smart on an A frame.

We had the guided tour, dish washer, washing machine, 2 tvs, 4 heating systems. bed at the back over the ' garage ' . Garage full of equipment.

He'd parked oppsite my hovel and notice the branches about to foul his aerials.
Didn't want to reverse 'cos of the Smart.
Solution......I got in the Smart and towed him backwards for 20ft or so.

When he drove away, I noticed the front wheels of the Smart were shimmying from side to side like mad. I wonder what they did at 60 on the M6 and how long the steering and tyres lasted.

The Hymer later burnt out on a French holiday !
Surprised it didn't have a sprinkler system.

I think the article said this one is a converted AEC reliance coach so nothing like as fancy as a hymer
One or two of the big ones at the caravan show each year have a garage with a sports car underneath

Can't argue with a photo. I don't think anybody would waste time Photoshopping it! It certainly does seem to fit.

IIRC unbraked A frame towing is not legal in UK or Europe except for recovery to a 'safe haven'.

However there is so much confusion very few prosecutions result.

Smart clearly state their cars are NOT to be towed behind a camper etc, due to the design of gearbox....

Oh dear! Smart seem to be the most popular car that I've seen in this sort of rig .

Whoops !

I'd have thought my pal would have known all about that...he's ocd about technical things.

As an aside, the Smart and the Hymer had consecutive private plates !

I did the same thing to a fiat Panda some years ago & it was fantastic fun, the only downside was if you braked hard the rear end lifted off the ground big time!
