This happened, allegedly at 199 mph, and in the wet! Apologies that is from the Daily Wail

...Apologies that is from the Daily Mail...

For once, let's concentrate on the message rather than the messenger, shall we?

Wow, thats going to be one big loss for both the owner and the insurance company. Owner is not going to get anywhere close to what he first paid for it from the insurance company and the insurance company have to make a hudge payout compared to the money they would have got from the insurance policy.

No airbag in £1.4m car??

Aquaplaning at just 62 MPH? Unlikely in a standard car with good tyres.

99.9999% people will never experience these types of cars. So how these cars are superior to standard family cars is debatable :o)

Aquaplaning can occur, on a very wet road, at a speed of 8.6 times the square root of the tyre pressure. So, in a standard saloon car (36psi) this could happen around 50 mph. 199 mph looks ill advised!

Does that include the width of the tyre? It has very wide tyres, that could increase the likelyhood of aquaplaning.

Sorry PP - where did the 199 come from? Like movilogo I can only see 'just over 100kph' mentioned in the report.

From a site called auoblog, found by googling for news re Zonda crash.

Millionaire tuner survives 199mph Pagani Zonda smash.

The 100 kph came from the Mail which is widely admired for the technical merit and accuracy of its ramblings

And its mentioned in the Telegraph report as he was within the speed limit for the road, just hit a big puddle and lost it...

I suspect that phrase you quoted just means a Millionaire who owns a Zonda that is capable of 199mph, rather than it was going at 199mph! Lazy English...

Not so hobby. Run-of-the-mill sexed-up headline writing is what it is.

Yes, you're probably right!

Would a wrecked Zonda be worth much? Not sure if you can recycle carbon fibre?

Suppose you could ebay an alloy from that wreckage, maybe a rear brake caliper.

Thats some amount of cars for a 28 year old banker?

Just backs up how poor the banking system is. Must be about, what , £7m or £8m worth of cars? And he can afford that and the insurance at 28?

I wonder what attracted the 21 year old girl to him?

I remember at Sebring racetrack a few years back a mate blagged a piece of a wrecked racecar after the race as a souvenir. Virtually the whole bonnet actually.

We had earlier bought Aston Martin baseball caps as it was hot and they were cheap.

Security stopped us leaving the paddock with the bonnet, then noticed the caps and assumed we were team and let us through. btw the carbon fibre was damn sharp, quite a few cuts on us after carrying it back to the tent. And impossible to cut up, or stamp on until broken!

Same mate blagged a race alloy as the basis for a coffee table which he had fun shipping back to the UK.

Around £1,000 buys you a Jag V12 engine block coffee table:

Less than that can buy you the whole car, so you can recycle lots of other bits...

I have only just realised that the title does *not* say "Paganini".
