 Tyred of BMW - Iffy
My mate in the caravan opposite turned up this weekend in an 11-reg Astra, instead of his usual 10-reg BMW 3-series convertible.

He told me the BMW is off the road because of two punctures in its runflats.

"None in the country," they said. "So here's an Astra until we can find some."

I suppose anything can be out of stock, but a tyre for a 3-series BMW is hardly a specialised item.

Perhaps it's because the car is a convertible - the CC3 takes heavy duty tyres because of its weight.

I replaced all 4 on mine a fortnight ago - in stock at the garage. The set of winters I subsequently ordered were there within 24 hours. Might be an odd size.

Blimey, how many miles has it done?

My C5 will have 4 new tyres this month at 22,000mls... bit sooner than I'd expected but I would have been due them sometime in the 3yrs I'll have it so no point in hanging on to the last bit of tread at the expense of wet road grip.

Lot sooner than I would expect.

Obviously he doesn't drive like a soft southern wuss is all it means.
 Tyred of BMW - Zero
You mean he hasn't go the the touch to drive it smoothly.

Ha.... just very lucky to drive daily on deserted rural B roads where I'm not held down to motorway speeds.... one of my daily routes being the one Peterborough motorcycle magazines use to test and photograph their machines.

Bit shocked the local tyre dealers wanted near on £600 to replace the Michelins like for like. Looking at some keen online deals for less popular makes at the moment.

That's pretty poor when the one big promoter of runflats runs out of national stock middle of summer, think of the joy of this happening 2 days before Christmas halfway through a journey to your family for the hols...no thanks, i'll stick with normal sizes, normal tyres and a proper spare wheel ta.

FL that's quite a chunk of lolly for 4 tyres on a decent size non sporting saloon, don't blame you having a nose about.
If you need some recommendations us lot can help, and probably have a row about that too..;)

My mileage dropped while Mrs B has been on maternity leave so I only have 18K on mine now. Fronts look like they will need doing soonish though - maybe around the 20K mark, but the rears are fine.

Did you swap the front and rear over to be replacing them at the same time?
 Tyred of BMW - Fenlander
Yes... I knew it was likely I'd need 4 tyres over the 3yrs so I swapped them to even out as I wanted to change makes and have all 4 the same. This change is based on doing them at 3mm.

The Berlingo needs new fronts - 175/70 R 14 T

Usually, F! by Sainsbury's have them in stock in BG Goodrich & Mich as well as a few cheaper types; just rock up and fit. Phoned today to be told only stock were budget jobbies. Given I'm off to France in three weeks and will be at max AUW I wanted something close to OEM - got to wait a few days for Michelin Energy.

Unlucky or does the 'just in time'/ only stock fast turnover thing spread ever further?

Incidentally, the firm's website was suggesting from the car's reg that I needed a different size/profile for a 15 inch rim. Possibly those rims were an option and they're standard on some Partners including the fuax 4x4 Escpade but definitely not on mine. Shows you always need to check!!

Worth having a look at prices in France BN ?

We bought some Miches for the Xantia in France a few years ago - they were marginally cheaper but judging from the state of £ v Euro now I doubt they would be cheaper.
Did a quick Google and Norauto in France quote 94 euros each for your tyres Brompt and if you find any cheaper, they will refund the difference.

Seems a bit expensive to me?

Quote from F1 was a quid or so shy of £80 each inc V&B, disposals etc. Given that they're convenient and have been fast, polite and efficient every time I've been in over the last 15yrs or so I'm happy with that. Should be in tomorrow.

There will be the usual conversation though. They will tell me the old tyres are not worn evenly across the tread. I will look at them and barely discern any differnce beyond what I'd expect from living near MK & it's roundabouts. Service declined - if there's a problem my garage would have mentioned it on service in May.

NO! Especially the way the exchange rate is now.

And if you ever manage to get a refund on price difference it won't be cash or card payment - voucher ('bon d'achat) only and usually only to be spent in that particular branch, with a time limit! In France they don't know the real meaning of refund, or customer service either.
