My friend has been put in touch with the current owner of an Austin Champ ex-Army jeep he owned while living in Kenya 17 years ago.
The Champ (an expensive over-engineered attempt by BMC to beat Land Rover to Army contracts in the early 1950s) is now owned by a man living in San Francisco who is planning to take it with him to his estate in New Zealand.
He says it is making 'a bit of a graunchy rattling noise' in fifth gear and asked if it was doing that when my friend owned it!

No. The Gypsy was a LandRover look alike, the Champ looked like a rather chunky jeep.

The current owner, being an American, is probably contacting his lawyer right now. A claim for damages, including mental anguish will probably follow..........
