 Scrapping a car - wotspur
After much thought ,and lack of funds I have finally decided to scrap my Espace Race- I've listed all the problems previosly in listings I've made, and the engineer working on it has said a new wiring loom "Might" fix it but can't guarantee it - so there may be more work required - so another 1,500 might fix it !

Does anyone have experience of scrapping a 9 yr old 125k mile vehicle ?? Its in the Wimbledon area and does not go, so will have to be collected
Last year I had a new exhaust and 4 new Michellin tyres fitted, amongst other works,as i THOUGHT it'd go on for another 2 years or so ? ouch there's over 1k just there - are they worth taking off and trying to sell sperartely - cause the cats on the exhaust are probably worth a bit.

Any advice would be appreciated and what could/should I get for it ?

you have three options

Break it yourself at home, advertising it on Ebay and take bits off as people offer for them.

Call a scrapper who will give you 150 quid for it.

advertise it on ebay as non running and see what you get

I'd put it on Renault forums as spares or repair, you'll probably make more from spares than a complete sale, then get the carcase taken away....no fees that way.

Much depends on how much room you have at home and if you can be bothered with the muck and lifting.

Alternative but probably not welcome, buy another and keep yours for spares?

if you sell it bit by bit on ebay, at what point do you not have to have it insured/sorned?

Is it on the road?

If you can get it off the road, get it sorned now.

Are you there yet Zoo?

Yes its on a road and the insurance runs out end of next week, so I haven't the skill or time to scrap it myself. Think I'll see if the mechanic who has been dealing with it will offer me anything for it - if not I think the easiest way is via ebay. - Will this normally go for more than the 150 scrappy man ??
Yesterday I heard some scroat has been damaging vehicles, 9 including mine, smashed a window, the rozzer was a bit surprised when I said, shame he hadn't set it alight so SO I could claim the insurance.

Ask Mr Khoo about his experience with an Espace, and it's eventual disposal.

You could do the charitable thing and donate it to the local fire brigade to practice on.

If it is taxed it has to be insured.
If it is sorned, it has to stay sorned up to the point that you officially notify it as scrapped.
I have a car still on SORN even though it doesn't really exist anymore.
On the other hand I have also "scrapped" a car most of which I still have, in bits.

Once started you have to remember to keep re-sorning a car in bits, and rather pointless unless you are keeping your options open about possibly re-building it one day. Of course by the stage you have several cars in bits, variously scrapped and sorned, then there are possibilities for reconstruction within a spectrum of legal / grey areas /illegal.

I scrapped one our Espaces at the end of last year Wotspur - as I needed it out of the way quickly I called our friendly local scrapman (sorry, end of life vehicle specialist:)) who had it removed within 24 hours and gave me £100 as well.

Much easier than dealing with ebay if you want it out of the way with minimum stress - remember ebay will also deduct seller fees, etc. from whatever you make too.

You could remove the exhaust before it goes, you could also ask the scrapman if he can give you the wheels when it gets to the yard. He'll take these off what he gives you for the car of course.
