Philadelphia comes to Glasgow - BobbyG
Just had a wee stroll through George Square in Glasgow which has been taken over for the next 2 weeks with a film crew filming the new Brad Pitt Zombies film.

Already the traffic lights have changed to American yellow "over the road" lights, zebra crossings at every junction and the vehicles are piling in from all directions, lots of American police cars, taxis, bus, trucks, etc.

Was sad enough to see a few right hand drive Mercs, Saabs and BMWs that had obviously been rescued from scrap yards (still had the white writing on the windows) but now with American plates on them.

They are still in the process of working on the streetscaping but very interesting to see the transformation!

The filming literature says that there will be two car crashes staged during the filming as well as various pyrotechnics. So just a normal day in Glasgow then....

If I can work out how to put photos onto a sharing website I will do..

wouldnt it be cheaper to film it in philly?

It's pretty impressive but I'm wondering the same as zookeeper. There's another bit was filmed in Africa or something.

If the council roads department made zombie films... :-)

...wouldnt it be cheaper to film it in philly?...

Many British cities offer assistance to film-makers to help the local economy.

Glasgow is one such city:

Yeah but they were looking for a rough area with lots of zombies wandering around...

...Yeah but they were looking for a rough area...

The director Ridley Scott was asked why he picked a beach on the bleak East Durham coastline for some of the scenes in Alien.

He replied it was the nearest approximation to hell on earth he knew of.

Ridley's a local lad, so the remark didn't cause offence.

I spoke to someone "in the know" today about this project.
He advised that the benefits it brings to the local economy are huge - apparently you will struggle to get a hotel room in Glasgow for the next 2 weeks and there is an absolute abundance of hangers on to this type of thing.

They travel the world following film locations, taking their own films, writing blogs etc.

There are many American accents in the square and the coffee shops are doing a roraring trade!

I bet there's room at the Chez Nous Guest House. There's always room at the Chez Nous.

So what town was Falmouth pretending to be when they filmed there?
Philadelphia comes to Glasgow - Zero
when who filmed what there?
Philadelphia comes to Glasgow - rtj70
When the Zombie film that Brad Pitt is starring in was filmed in Falmouth. The same film that is pretending Glasgow is Philadelphia.

Nice pics. I suppose Glasgow is more American looking than America, now.

Nice pics. lots of crown vics and explorers. They need to block out the yellow lines tho!

I guess that Glasgow looks a bit like Philly town houses.

"Although shot in Glasgow, the film is set in Philadelphia, so false shop fronts will be brought in and American cars will take to the city's streets."

Damn - I was looking forward to seeing the Greggs in Philadelphia!
