Cheapest place to fill up - - diddy1234
I have no intention to make the motorist more fed up but the UK is the third most expensive country in the world to fill up with fuel.

Oslo is more exspensive at 164p per litre

The cheapest is Venezuela at 2/3p per litre

more details here :-

I knew that we were getting fleeced at the pumps but this is a joke.

Do you think Venezuela has any pledges to cut green house emissions by 2020, nah I didn't think so either.

Doesn't the UK also have one of the cheapest road taxes in the world?

No.
You are deluded.

what help would that be even if we were the cheapest for road tax (sorry vehicle exercise duty) ?

Even if you had the greenest car on the planet, you'd offset any savings in VED rates by buying fuel in no time at all.

the government have us by the short and curly's for taxing us to the hilt and we cannot do too much about it.

Shame Guy Fawkes never succeeded.

Doesn't mention Venezuela, though, does it, Z? There are some oil-producing countries - Malaysia and the Gulf States spring to mind - that do practically give the stuff away to locals. Would I choose to live in any of them? No, but the kind of tedious, small-minded windbag who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing might be tempted.

No your right, it doesent. Mind I am not likely to be driving their within the next 12 months (or the next war/revolution whatever comes first) so frankly knowing the price of petrol there is a waste of my dying brain cells.

Whereas the price of petrol in near europe, where I and others might be travelling, and where standards of life and wages are similar to ours, is much more illuminating.

But alas does not make such simple black and white headlines for us to get heated about.

Would like to see a similar table of average wage for each country.

I would feel pretty sure that the average German, Brit, Swede, Swiss or Dutchman would be earning more than the average Greek, Italian, or Portuguese.

If the average wage in Greece is still barely half of ours as it was four years ago when I was last there then their eyes must be watering when they fill up; they were moaning then when their price was about the same as ours let alone about 10% higher.

Zero, where did you get those prices from?

I filled up yesterday in Twickenham - diesel - for 135.9. From memory Lady D's car was filled the other day with unleaded for 133.9.

You must try looking further away than Byfleet!

I don't know any other countries which offer free VED or very cheap VED, in my case £30 a year.

France abolished their version of Car Tax (The Vignette) in 2001.

They are - this year - introducing a Green Tax on new vehicles purchased which emit > 250g of CO2 per Km . 160euro pa. but no road tax for most cars , and set at 250g almost all French built cars (Peugeot, Renault, Citroen) are unaffected (naturally), the tax will hit imported 4x4's luxery cars etc

Crude oil is currently 87 USD a barrel. When it hit 120 dollars a couple of years ago petrol wasn't as expensive as it is today. The Americans are paying just under 4 dollars a gallon. We pay six and a half quid.
Yes I know their gallon is a pint and a bit shy of ours. We still pay too much tax however you look at it.

The Americans are turning away from the Middle East they know its a basket case.

We in Europe correct me if I'm wrong relying more on Russia and Norway.

"Would like to see a similar table of average wage for each country. "

Meaningless, as the countries with cheap fuel also tend to do their own tax returns, (no PAYE) so their average wage always looks pitiful.

The price they show for petrol in Doha is actually too high..

Last time I was there in February I'm sure it was around 11 p per litre and I can fill up the Legend that I drive there for around £ 3.50...... and they fill the tank for you, none of this do it yourself.....

Also do not ever recall paying for any road fund tax ........

Driving sounds good out there until you discover that you are 30 times more likely to die in a road accident there than in UK...

pro's and con's I guess.

Still at least drivers can die happy knowing they just filled up for £3.50
