Annoyingly a service this week at the local dealer pointed out a puncture on one of my nearly new Winter Run Flat tyres. Was told to contact a tyre dealer directly to discuss repair, but two local ones say it can't be done, Kwikfit's website says it can't be done, but Michelin and Brisgestone's websites apparently say it can. I have Goodyears fitted. No air appaears to be leaking out so no rush I would say.

The local BMW garage that did the repair said that some people would be prepared to do it, but have not got any names.

Anyone else had this problem?

I am trying to save the company £200 for a new one and cannot see that a simple repair of a simple puncture could risk the structural rigidity of the tyre.

Any thoughts?

Odd that - the BMW supplied winters I got are traditional tyres - I was given a "mobility kit" with a rather well made tyre gauge and a compressor. Phone they tyre importers.

Latest generation Bridgestones RFLs can be repaired though not all tyre centres may be aware of this.

I was told that my RF's if punctured could not be repaired..That was by Kwik Fit though

Telling you to clear off and research this yourself is a feeble effort from the BMW dealer.

They might not be tyre specialists themselves, but they ought to know the local trade well enough to point you in the right direction.

They can only advise as sanctioned by BMW though from what I have been lead to believe Bridgestone advocate reparing of their latest RFLs.

You have Goodyears, no good checking Michelin or Bridgestone, have you asked Goodyear?

Is it a puncture then? or damage?

It can do - depends on where the puncture/damage is

What is the puncture/damage - Have you checked it yourself?

In 2002 our local BMW dealer was happy to repair a puncture in the runflat fitted to our then new MINI; by 2006 they were not willing to repair a punctured runflat on our 535d. A local tyre place (non chain) was quite happy to fix it though, and it went on to cover another 5k miles or so.

The BMW dealer said, back then, that in theory the runflat could be repaired if it had not been driven on, but if it had then the structure would have been compromised and a repair would not be possible. Since they could not tell if the structure had been compromised they wouldn't repair it, The local tyre dealer was happy to take my word that it had not been driven on deflated (it hadn't) and repaired it...

That applies to any tyre, Run an ordinary car tyre deflated and you break up the sidewalls. Any car thats had rapid deflation at speed and its a bin the tyre jobbie.

Obviously the tyre will need inspection by a repair pro to determine if your particular one is reapiarable, for the in theory answer as to whether it can be fixed or not you could give these people a ring, been going many years, tyre repairing is their core business.
