No good if you've got a left hooker though.

"Please note that all products offered in the shop are suitable only for RHD vehicles."

Knowing BMW, you'll have to pay extra for the rubber blade.

Easy - "No"

Does it really work? anyone actually tried one? I thought BMW drivers just left the engine running and waited for the ice to melt.

I have a Ford with heated screen and three weapons to hand for the snow / frost removal task.
A trigger bottle of antifreeze, a normal squeegee with blade / foam faces and last of all a very useful long extending aluminium handled Brabantia Brush / squeegee
The Brabantia is fantastic as I can brush snow off the roof, bonnet etc and be far enough away to avoid the blow back and it is soft enought to avoid paintwork damage.

Presumably this is suitable only for 1s and four-cylinder 3s; anyone who can really afford a BMW can also afford a garage to keep it in.

I thought BMW drivers never used them. Tank commanders etc.

Are they only suitable for old BMWs then? :-)

I just use a credit card to scrape a letterbox in the windscreen and rely on everyone else to keep out of my way. After all, if you don't have a BMW you shouldn't be in lane 3 anyway.

Seeing where you are going is something drivers of lesser brands worry about. ;-)

One of the frankly unexpected pleasures of driving a gert big Merc with more lights on its front than Blackpool promenade is that even the BMWs get out of your way ! By the time you're past it's too late for them to change their minds 'cos you've only got the 250 diesel badge !

:-)

So you've got an E250 CDI or C250 CDI then Humph, I missed that, how are you finding it:? The engine is in the same genre as the 123d, smallish 4 cyl diesel in a high state of tune. Didn't they have injector issues though I am sure that is sorted now.

E250 CDI auto Sport estate Cheddar. Loving it. 7000 miles already. So far so good.

LOL!

Yeah....course that issue is sorted! (sniggers!)

That said, MB are getting there... the current injector mod/recall is well under way, hopefully that WILL sort the problems out.

Some bargains on there if you look hard e.g. an OE brake pad set for an E46 for 45 notes including replacement sensors and OE bulbs as cheap as chips. OE bulbs are important on a CANbus system to prevent false failure warnings or so the received wisdom goes.

Old news I think ST; the noise around in 09/10 has disappeared, and no mention on the usual MB forums of ongoing issues since mid 2010....

Looks a bit like the one I bought in aldi a few weeks back except mine has a 12" snow brush on the far end........and was only £1.79

Sorry Peter - not old news.
The latest mod was launched a few months ago, and it involves a huge quantity of cars....
BTW, the 1st hit on a Google search 'merc injector problem ' results in this... www.carsuk.net/mercedes-blueefficiency-om651-injector-problems/ note the dates of latest postings....
BMW - BMW Ice Scraper - how can you say no to one ? - PeterS
Strange, because googling "mercedes cdi injector problems" thows up nothing particularly recent

However, the article you've linked to is almost 2 years old, as is the update article linked to from it, with only a handful of recent postings (some of which are for CGI not CDI cars), and no mention of any new mods. If you've any info on the latest mods they'd be gratefully received!

BMW - BMW Ice Scraper - how can you say no to one ? - Runfer D'Hills
Well, I guess we'll just have to keep them posted eh Peter? So far so good anyway !

Wasn't three bad in the snow today either. Been 20 odd years since I had a RWD auto but the knack seemed to come back fairly quickly. Bit of tail out / opposite lock roundaout hooliganism ensued of course ! Nice...

That's a big old bus you've got to get sideways.

A rwd Ford Escort was about my mark.

Power steering y'see. Doddle. All manner of lights flash when you do it too. Quite exciting really. My son was impressed anyway but he is only 11...Sworn him not to tell his mother...

Ah well, now, y'see, you could ( instead of letting your new wife have that librarian's Volvo. Is she that insubordinate already? Sheesh..) You could, presumably using the oratory skills you must have honed in a previous life, convince her that what she really wants is a 3 series touring with a proper engine. When she's stumped up for it you then play the master stroke. You indicate that during the winter months, for her own safety, and indeed your peace of mind, that she should take your winter tyre equipped, 4wd, X1 to work...

Sure you could swing it. Bit of Mojo. Sorted...

:-)
BMW - BMW Ice Scraper - how can you say no to one ? - R.P.
Sadly I don't need to convince her, her dad's got a 325i - she loves it, and gave me a demo drive a few weeks ago in it. Mmmm 3 series....or 5 series NOOOOOOOOooooooooooo !
BMW - BMW Ice Scraper - how can you say no to one ? - Runfer D'Hills
You know it makes sense. You do...Close your eyes, stretch your arms out, remember how you used to intuit a car through a bend. Feel the back just starting to twitch, ease on a bit more power, feel it start to come round on the apex, tiny bit of opp-lock. Straighten up, boot it, brake late for the next corner, turn in, repeat...

3 or a 5. Wouldn't really matter...

:-))

VBH was driving that on Fifth Gear last night - there's a video on their site.

There's something about VBH. I mean, well, you know. Well I would anyway. Sort of thing. Sorry just wandered off there...

Moving on, that M5 is a beastie. I'm possibly going to say I might prefer Merc's competitor though, especially in estate guise. Sort of Q car as they used to say.

Lovely legs, as seen in that clip - now what was that car she was driving? I got a bit distracted and missed what model it was......

One of those Mercs overtook me as if I was standing still a few weeks ago - and I thought, I was going quite sharpish....

No idea about handling, or top speed, but an AMG Merc, kills a BMW M stone dead when it comes to the noise department. Its the dirtiest, in a purely sexual sense, sounding car I know. I often walk the dog past MB world test track just to savour the row.

A colleague at work swapped his E60 M5 for a 1 Series M about two months ago. He prefers it to the M5. The computer in the M5 was showing average fuel consumption of 12 point something mpg last time I saw it.

It's a lot easier in a bigger vehicle, IME. Ask Pat.

I used to have great fun in a Cortina GT and dinghy trailer on wet roads. The trailer made the slides much easier to control.

Indeed; it'd be nice to have some actual evidence of continued problems though... Seems to me to be just repeating the info from a couple of years ago... Still, no problems here, 2k miles in :-)
Since we've also managed to survive 3 fault free meganes (despite the various reported issues) and a couple Audis (avoiding the reported coil pack isses with them) I'm sure we'll manage ;-)

Incidently, I much prefer driving RWD cars in the snow - they just seem more controllable. None down here on the South Coast though :-(

I can assure you, that this issue is very much continuing, as for proof, a little hard on a open forum like this, without losing my job....
Hopefully you wont have any problems, and it is possible all mods have already been carried out on your car.

They are very good cars, its just a huge pity Mercedes have had problems over the last decade or so....
BMW - BMW Ice Scraper - how can you say no to one ? - PeterS
I've no axe to grind either way - my confusion is simply that if there was a current problem, surely the MB forums would be full of people having issues, and they aren't. 18 months ago they were, but now they're not. Now if MB are proactively fixing issues before they happen, then great, I'd expect nothing less. But again, no mention anywhere of this either. So hopefully you can understand my scepticism...

I do understand.
The issue isn't as widespread as it was, and hopefully the latest round of mods will be the last needed.
I must admit im surprised at how little about this is found online at present.
But there again, you would be amazed just what has passed under the radar in the past (not just talking about Mercedes now......)

OK, some cars are having their injectors replaced as a matter of course, and ASAIK all cars are having a wiring mod fitted.
Some cars have had to have new engine wiring harnesses fitted as well as some sensors, due to fuel drawing up the loom.

Best in this area by far are the ones that look like a mitten with a plastic scraper sticking out of the end. Hand goes in mitten and holds scraper handle, scraped ice and snow never touches your hand.
First found 'em in CZ (where they know a thing or two about cold weather), now available most places. The "pound shops" tend to knock 'em out for peanuts.

Look for the ones with the black scraper and the heavy mitten, properly seamed around the scraper slot. There are some cheap knockoffs going around with a transparent scraper and a mitten like shell-suit material that are useless at the job and fall apart in seconds.

How much would that be, then, TC?

That's a poverty spec for 1-3 series drivers. This is the real deal...

Tesco Value Salted Peanuts 400G 0.96p so I reckon that's what peanuts means !
