 Technical Forum Conundrum - pete4344
I am puzzled that the Technical Forum here gets so few questions. However the few that are received get knowledgeable answers.

The Technical Forum at the other place gets lots of questions, but not many sensible answers!

What's the solution, apart from faking questions!!

Maybe, through coming here, we are all just buying reliable cars now due to the fantastic advice on offer :-p

It should be noted that since Rattle bought a new car, theres so much less to be asked about!

I suppose most of us are pretty well clued up where the oily bits are concerned, and can tell our nipples from our nuts.

Cue for quick gander at the technical section. I have never been there because I have never owned a modern car, have no knowledge of their technicalities, and when I need technical help on Volvos, Triumphs or LandRovers I go to the specialist club forums.

Impressive lots of answers though. It's nice to see another flourishing side to the forum, to complement the general motoring discussion and the Other.

Few answers on HJ as most of the knowledge left and came here,,,

And it's only the ignorant who buy unreliable used cars .. the versed take care and do some research first :-)

I guess I am fairly typical on here.

I service my own cars. The next one (due now) is a biggie

I shall be changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, cabin filter, brake pads, (possibly the disks if the pads dont cure a braking "shimmy" brake fluid, coolant.

There is nothing on the car I couldn't diagnose a failure to component level, and nothing I couldn't fix myself tho there are jobs I wont do myself, due lack of a warm workshop or the required tools, but at least when I farm them out I will know what I am talking about and wont get ripped off.

Given that a large proportion on here are like me, and we know where to go to get detailed specific knowledge, its little wonder that the Technical section does not get used as much here as it could.
