I have been looking up quotes for my car insurance and one thing has popped up that i find weird.

The cheapest quote for fully comp was £350 but i tried 3rd party fire and theft and the cheapest was £950!.

When i was younger 3rd party was always the cheapest.

Any idea whats going on?

People who only insure third party are deemed to pose a higher risk.

For high risk drivers then third party will be cheaper. For most others it is more expensive as RR says.

My wife's car is not worth much anymore (ten years old) but her excess is only £50. Changing the excess upwards to say £350 is negligible difference. As is changing to TPFT so it's fully comprehensive.

She does low mileage. Policy says up to 3000 but she probably doesn't do half that.

That must be why I got a quotes for the KIA for £68 TPFT and £72 comp.

They think I'm a terrible driver.
