My first reaction was yeah, so what?
Then it got me wondering how they could redesign the cockpit for a handbag and small pack of tissues ;-)

Then I thought that the current male drivers are very fit and have figure hugging race suits, so if a fit bird squeezes into one of them, then....hubba, hubba, F1 just got interesting again.

There was once a Female woman driver in the BTCC championships, Fiona someone or other, never won much i dont think, always seemed to finish mid-table. Lacked the "bully syndrome" to get tough when needed i always thought. Still good on the lass for having the courage to enter into such a "Male-dominated" arena and attempt to "give it a go"!

Like the other mid-table finishers?

An especially good-looking female F1 driver would be a good draw for sponsers, male demographic wont be complaining and you can guarantee media attention would be huge.

Yeah, but she'd never be able to park it....

You need neck muscles like the Humber Bridge, among other things. Top racing drivers and motorcyclists have a level of all round fitness that is often superior to those in sports where a specific muscle group is excercised.

Quite a few from both disciplines use cycling to keep fit and manage to reach a very high standard, one of the Moto GP or Superbike riders whose name escapes me also competes as a professional cyclist.

Yeah, I can just imagine the pre-race interview;
Brundle: "so what are you driving this season Samantha?"

Samantha:" I dunno, it's red though with a nice pink bit on the sticky up bit at the back!".

Ther is a young lady in Formula Renault (supports BTCC) called Alice Powell. Nearly always finishes last, or nearly last. Usually claims it is a car issue.

As the OP of that thread, I don't, it was serious, or as serious as we get on here.

And I note none of the Car4Play Constabulary claimed the behaviour of the cops doing the training was not typical.

What's the difference? If this thread is 'just humour and light hearted banter' (which is how i've taken it)...then how does it differ from some of the actions mentioned in the other thread?

Light hearted banter and joking is typical of police behaviour. Out and out bullying isn't (although it no doubt does go on, as it does everywhere).

You're often quite keen to have a pop at the Old Bill Iffy...problem?

...You're often quite keen to have a pop at the Old Bill Iffy...problem?...

Garbage.

The post is true, it is typical behaviour of cops at play.

You might not like it, or think it reflects well on the Old Bill, but I couldn't care less about that.

If you think that's 'having a go' you are wrong.

And you also need to man up a bit.

My point was Iffy that the quips that have appeared on this thread re handbags, tissues, parking etc are I am sure meant as banter with no malice. I see no difference with perhaps a quip about a pink gun.

Take that one out of the allegations and the original complaint starts to shake a bit.

Not saying it didn't happen, it's just I have issues with some agendas.

I thought we were all more or less agreed the woman should have known what to expect and been able to deal with it without going to a tribunal.

As for full agreement I'm not so sure.

Lady Christobel Watson (née Carlisle) was good. "In her short career she proved the equal of all she raced against." tinyurl.com/7ju29kr I saw her race several times in the 1960s.

Would a woman be able to park on the starting grid?

Pat admits she can't park a car because it does not have a hinge in the middle. :-)

My first Mini 850 once belonged to her: it was a mildly tuned version for, IIRC, Group 1 saloon car racing, although I suspect the best bits of its lump had been retained!
It still had her trademark CMC77 number, although that attractive registration did not come with the car.
She retired from racing after a nasty accident at Silverstone when she lost control of the big Austin Healy 3000 she was driving, as she entered the pit straight. The car demolished a marshal's post, killing one of the unfortunate occupiers.

She still does.

I'm not in favour of all this hoo-hah about a woman being an F1 driver.

When a lady driver is up to it...then good luck to her...if not...no can do.

It's the same with all the rubbish about Hamilton being the first black driver. So what. He's in F1 because he's damned good, not because he's black (or half black if you're a pedant...like me).
Women in Formula 1? - TheManWithNoName
I only started the thread as a bit of lighthearted ribbing, but I agree with you Westpig, it shouldn't matter a jot what gender someone is - if they're good at the job then let them go for it. You've only got to refer to that female Red Arrows pilot and Tornado pilot to realise gender has no affect on ability - unless of course you're talking childbirth!

But that of course assumes the route from 'credible committed wannabe' is equally well paved for all candidates.

And it isn't

Ah she does excellent.

>>>female Red Arrows pilot

Not an ideal example at the moment... some real spats on the aviation forums because she has been stood down from flying (or asked, a mutual decision anyway) for reasons associated with the two pilot colleague losses over the past year.

Much grumbling that a "bloke" would have coped with the stress better. I'm not saying either way... just reporting.

To be an F1 driver, to go with your talent you need money (lots of it) or a sponsor. To get money or a sponsor you need to be marketable. Women are not marketable in the F1 context/audience.
Women in Formula 1? - Armel Coussine
>> Women are not marketable in the F1 context/audience.

Bit of a bald statement there I'd say.

Women have made it in rallying, less in racing. Of course lots can drive, have the eyesight, the reactions, the mechanical nous, the bottle, even the neck muscles. I don't see why the right woman shouldn't get some ahead-of-the-game backing some day.

Could be of course that women aren't mad enough for the higher forms of mediatized motor sport. Or they are mad in a different way.
Women in Formula 1? - Armel Coussine
You're right about the money though Zero. Time was when almost all sporting motorists were rich people. Some still are, but these days motor trade connections (for example) can help.
Women in Formula 1? - Iffy
A fit-looking lass would be eminently marketable in F1, as in any other environment.

But a major problem for F1 is the top of a crash helmet at 150mph looks the same, whoever is under it.

 Women in Formula 1? - L'escargot
>> Time was when almost all sporting motorists were rich people.

I can remember private entrants in races in the 1960s who were just ordinary people. One particular character used to race without any protection whatsoever. On sunny days his shirt was open to the waist, blowing in the breeze. I just wish I could remember his name.
 Women in Formula 1? - Runfer D'Hills
Presumably it wasn't "Button" then ?

:-)
