 Laptop safety - WillDeBeest
I've facetiously tagged this one 'Computing issues'. I've just had to sign and return a sheet left on my desk to indicate that I've read the corporate guidelines for safe use of laptops.
Amongst other, familiar advice, it says:

The use of laptops in stationary cars is actively discouraged.

You know what I'm going to say next. In future I will wait till the car is moving before firing up the HP.

And the use of proof readers in the corporate offices is obviously optional!

Fortunately most companies have sacked or pensioned off their pedants so it doesn't matter.

Must be too late in the day for my feeble brain. What's wrong with it? "actively"?

I'm scratching my head, too. Where's Roger when you need him?

There must be an outbreak of Lice in the C4P classroom, someone call for the nit nurse.

Come along, Meldrew, put us out of our misery or there'll be a pedants' revolt.

And don't start your sentences with a conjunction.

A proof read would have produced this

>>The use of laptops in cars is discouraged<<

"The use of laptops in cars is discouraged"

I misread that. I thought it read "The use of lapdancers in cars are encouraged"

I suppose yours would have "pole" dancers Dave?

Is the problem:-

(a) use of laptops while in 'stopped' traffic.

(b) Heath and Safety (DSE) issues using laptops in confined space of a car.

Neither, the main problem is getting a decent WiFi signal. Dongle's no use, it gets knocked out of the USB port when you go round corners.

If it is good enough for William Blake (Jerusalem) it will have to do for the pedants/peasants here!
"And did those feet, in ancient time" etc! >:) !
 Laptop safety - Roger.
Watching a downloaded video on the laptop.
("Body of Proof": episode 17 of season two, in fact.)
At least the the correct "stationary" was used rather than "stationery"!

The author probably meant to put "The use of laptops in stationery cupboards is actively discouraged."
