By all accounts a decent bloke. Darts on TV was hugely popular in the eighties and sitting down with the kids to watch Wilson, Bristow et al was a regular occurrence. Personally can't throw a dart for love nor money so always admired their skill.

Another little piece of my life gone. Sad

Decent blokes get banned for punching referees?

Sometimes. Are you referee?

Zero's spot on with the health side - drank too much, smoked too much, ate sweets while diabetic, etc.

Sportsmen/women are to be admired for their abilities, but as life/behaviour role models many of them leave a lot to be desired.

The level of 'spoilt brat' behaviour in darts is no more or less than that seen in football or tennis.

And still made it to 62.

Good on him, he must have had a strong constitution.

Darts players must be the loosest definition of the word "Sportsmen" at least no-one refers to them as "athletes" !

He may well have been an overweight, chain smoking, Scottish soak, but he still has a place in our hearts.

(Those of us that have one)

Driven by demons to a certain extent I should imagine, I've known a fair few men like that,

Without their demons to drive them on, they would just have been men.

Yes, fingers crossed indeed Dutchie, thanks for letting us know.

My sister is doing well with her myeloma en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_myeloma

She also has chronic kidney disease, possibly caused by the myeloma, but she gets on with life and is always gadding about somewhere or other, she is under the watchful eye of Kings college hosp. in London near where she lives - amazing what they can do these days, she speaks very highly of the hospital/doctors there.
