I hear that some clown in the government is proposing that any home improvements should also have a compulsory environmental improvement required. A new boiler or conservatory were mentioned as requiring a linked green penalty.

The man who services our oil-fired boiler says that it's efficiency is significantly lower than that of modern boilers, so I assume that fitting a new (modern) boiler would reduce our oil consumption and would also reduce the amount of carbon dioxide the boiler emitted. Isn't that what the government wants? On that basis, why should we have to pay a levy on the improvement cost?

No, that is NOT what the Government wants.
What the Government wants is the capability of raising more taxes by using the spurious "green" argument.

All this will achieve is a cowboys charter or unmaintained / unimproved housing stock.

All we will end up with is a market where houses can only be bought by builders to strip out or knock down and rebuild.

You have to wonder if those in charge wish to be re-elected, more to the point where do they find people who come up with this carp.

The more they legislate and tax the more we go underground.

Hmm This conflicts with quicker planning permissions and reduced legislation.

Ahh It's a Lib Dem scheme and Chris Huhne so never will see daylight.

Moronic to suggest Local government could run it.. 1,000 of extra inspectors and disputes as to what is new etc.

Some people should get a life and leave politics: preferably to prison.

Looks like it has been ruled out. But how long before someone tries to resurrect it?

I bet you a couple of warm pasties it'll not be long - the seeds have been sewn.

And politicians wonder why the electorate do not trust them...
