New Online Tax Calculator - Crankcase
Just launched today. If you can get it to work (it's really busy) then you get a breakdown of how much of your tax goes to various spending budgets.

Comparing how much you spend on "debt payments" against"welfare" or "defence" or whatever I found interesting. I'm spending as much on my annual cable tv as I do on "recreation and culture" for example.

Good luck with the colours in the pie chart though. They're very hard to tell apart.

Weird. You can now get there from

www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs-tools/index.shtml

And choose HMRC tax calculator, but not from my first link.

Just in case anyone has been trying.

It's a bogus calculation. The amount the government spends on various services has got nothing to do with tax revenue. The budget is not balanced, deliberately so, because governments constantly vary the net amount they are "injecting into the economy" by borrowing, quantitative easing, etc.

One moment you might think your tax was helping to build a hospital, the next that it had been frittered away giving Greece a bailout, along with a few more borrowed billions of pounds.
