Very impressive!

But... how many 1000s of different parts have they used to make that? T'weren't like that in my day lad...

Thought it was wonderful, then realised some of its not possible.

2:50, trucks cant run up hill AND down hill.

Motorised?

Doesn't look like it.

Some sort of inertia motor?

It looks like a motor's spinning something (flywheel).

I don't see why not. There's room for a motor in the base of the truck.

The whole thing is powered of course, perhaps by many motors. Never mind a bit of faking, it's still wonderful, even if lego is a bit after one's time.

I was the last of the Meccano generation. I've never quite shed the feeling that being metal Meccano is somehow more real, but I have to admit Lego is pretty good, and much more versatile.
Did anyone watch the James May programme on the real Lego house? Very silly, but good fun, like the gian train set.

the Lego Bugatti veyron was more interesting

I think, the bays have a pushing mechanism - there is a set of levers in them, and the track is on the level....

It looked quite impressive! - but "what" did it actually do? did it finally sort the balls or what!
600hrs and all the "brain-work" seems wasteful if all it actually did was to move balls from A to B, which could have been done by emptying the box of balls in the right destination originally!

My kids have Lego, and enjoy it a lot.
However, there is two factors of Lego which will remain the same no matter how complicated and complex they make the stuff...

1) the kids will always find a way to do things differently, and throw away the instruction book after they've made the 'on the box' model, and create their own ideas and themes
2) the stuff will still hurt like b*ggery when you step on a bit at 3am on your way to the loo.

That video is truly amazing, and has inspired a feeling of deep jealousy in me!

I loved Lego when I was young. Some time between me playing with it and trying to introduce my children to it, the whole thing had changed with loads of special bits to make specific models with, and special kits and not much in teh way of imagination.

Strangely they never got into it, even the younger one who as a toddler loved Duplo.

It seems to me that most toys today require no imagination. And accordingly it is no surprise that children get bored with them very quickly indeed.

The box that the new washing machine came in was probably our favourite toy...

My two would second that. An old sheet can be turned into a tent etc.
