............. to poo on house windows in preference to doing it on the other outside surfaces of a house? In fact why do they poo on a vertical surface such as a house window anyway?

If House Martins nest under your eaves then the chicks wiggle their backsides over lip of nest to poo. Even if you've not got hopper vents open a fair bit of it lands on the glass. Most of ours left last week but there are still stragglers in the nest. I love having Martins around so I tolerate their incontinence and indeed instruct window cleaner to avoid going near nests to clean the window.

Also seen starling, robins and sparrows fighting violently with their own reflection in the glass and pooing while they go.

Other species 'let go' while flying and a mixture of breeze and momentum carry it onto your window.

Comments like that could cause a stink...

I tend to think it's the ' Barnes Wallis ' effect of opening the bomb doors just before landing on your gutters. Momentum carries the bomb forward. It probably happens all round the house but only the ones that hit the glass are noticeable.

I thought it might be because of them flying towards the window and not seeing the glass until the last minute, and then opening their bomb doors in panic as they bank away from the window.

Is anyone else plagued with house flies at the moment?

Not since I told them to buzz off ;)

I've tried everything...even spraying them with hairspray to try and stick their wings together but still they come back.

Hair-Spray works best on them if you hold a lighted match infront of the nozzle!! ;-)

Not many. We had the usual plague of cornflies in late July and a few but not many compared to wetter years Craneflies (DaddyLonglegs) atm.

The spiders are coming back inside though......

Don't ever make the mistake I made earlier this Summer!!! - I stupidly bought the grand-brats one of those electric tennis-raquets each. we now have scuffs and splat-marks all over the wallpaper, no ornaments, shredded vertical blinds and I'm sure I can still smell burnt meat all around the house!!!

= less dusting.

No, we're just plagued with birds pooping on the windows.
